You mean people see a big pot of gold (tax dollars) and take more than their fair share? I'm just not buying that...

Very bad example! First of all, Mexico is a Third World Country. If you want to talk about some laissez-faire places, Monaco and Isle of Man are some better examples. No income tax, no inheritance tax, no property tax and pro-landlord legislation. I invite you to visit Monte Carlo anytime and you will be amazed. Free market Economics is the way to go!

I always thought Mexico had a lot in common with Libertarianism. They have so few rules and regulation. Hence the crappy roads, cities that look like they have no zoning rules at all, horrible pollution, unsafe drinking water, the masses living in poverty controlled by a small, elite ruling class. Legalize guns and drugs, and I'd think it would be Libertarian paradise.

How is being ruled by a small elite anything like the libertarian philosophy?

Seems there are a lot of posters ignorant of political ideologies.

And fearful of not having a government there to run their lives.

Because that's the unavoidable result of pure Libertarianism. Basically a "you're on your own" society where those with the education, ability, and means are able to take advantage of everyone else.

I guess you think the masses are too dumb to get by without the guiding iron fist of the government?

It's amazing that people have far greater faith in godvernment (which is made of people, not incorruptible robots BTW) than their own fellow citizens.

Actually, a true to life example of a Libertarian state would be Hong Kong.. Do they even have poverty still in HK? Last I heard they had trouble finding enough people to hire.. Of course, that was before the economic downturn in the US, and I am sure they were affected as well..

Besides, Mexico is currently in the process of getting UHC, and is usually regarded as a Socialist country. They also have SS benefits, and I believe they have a higher literacy rate than Americans.. Overall, Mexico is a beautiful country with lots of friendly people.. The worst parts of the country are definately concentrated in the Northern portion.. But you gotta supply Americans their drugs! And boy do we consume them.. Its no wonder they are at war over it.

Hmmm you must be for that place where "you're supporting everyone else" society where those with some education and work hard, have to support programs that promote dependancy, government waste and they enforce it this idealogy with taxes and guns and government departments to make you submit.
Is that the kinda society you enjoy. Libertarianism means in a general sense you are on your own and a government that respects that idealogy and supports a system of good economic policies and standards. In libertarianism you have laws, but they arent laws that protect you from yourself. They protect you from others just like most of the laws do know. Like having to wear a seat belt is not a law that hurts someone else, and we dont need that law. A speed limit law you need because it is common sense to protect dangerous speeds on the highway. You should have the right to protect yourself and property at all times and to protect your life and guns should be not registered and or restricted. Most importantly guns to to protect you from your government. Also things like balancing a budget and reducing the social and economic dependancy. Social Security should be phased out and or become a choice not automatic enrollment. If we actually had capitalism which we don't really have the free market would have solved most of the issues and the people would have found better solutions for themselves. So all this stuff you see going on with the economny is related to poor central government planning and banking of the federal reserve system and promising homes to people who dont even have jobs. All created by your wonderful federal government to protect you from yourself and more socialism idealogy.
You want regulation, regulate the government..
They are too busy giving money away that isnt theirs, starting wars, never ending wars, dont even have a plan for this war, we support half the world in food, shelter and with weapons and promote more socialist idealogies.
Where in the constitution does it say that is the job of the american taxpayer, where does it say we give money from nation to nation and a president can start war with out congress giving a declaration of war.
I would also think in starting a war, you should have goals, time frames and money to support the war. Supporting troops on a mission that is not defined and unending is not patroit it is blind faith in government policy.
If your going to spend 4 trillion dollars of tax payer money on war or anything else I want to know a status. What is going on with Bin Laden what is the status any leads, what the hell are you doing about it and stop bailing out your corporate business buddies and failed auto companies.
GM and Ford are about as American as China.
Parts made in China, and most of the cars are built in Canada and Mexico..
Doesnt seem so American to me which must be why the cars SUCK!
Let them all fail, for there poor business decisions and theie own lack of better judgement on how to build cars, union polices and over all bad business model. What is next we going to bail out local pizza shops.
You can't bailout corporations it is unconstitional, immoral and generally stupid to ask tax payers to prop up prices and businesses. Started with Bush and continues with Obama I'm sick and tired of this crap and this is complete madness.

When you remove public education and all safety nets, you end up with a high poverty rate. You can't understand that?
