Has any reputable news source published this specific list? I understand there have been reports of an effort to restore the ban on what some people consider to be assault weapons ... but has this particular list been "published" on anything other than right-wing blogs? I've found the list - in fact, the exact same post - on many, many such blogs.
The story says "... the Democrats have already leaked a gun-ban list...", but did they leak it only to right-wing blogs? Even FOX "News" doesn't have this list.
Seems to me that gun nuts may be working themselves up into a lather prematurely.
The list comes from H.R. 1022, failed legislation from the 110th Congress. With a Dem majority, along with Holder's remarks, it is clear that some type of similar legislation is coming and is going to make it "alot futher down the pipes".
make it fair all around, since we do not need laws against the law abiding citizen, and crooks steal their firarms or buy them illegally, then get rid of all gun control laws, also known as victim disarmanent laws.
what obama and his AG are doing is making the USA in the same image of nazi germany.
I personally don't care if you have a back yard full of howitzers. It has never been about what kind of armament you own, but about responsibility.
The fact of the matter is, there are no simple answers to the questions, only simple people who refuse to negotiate in any way, shape, form, or fashion. If the pro gun faction will not talk, they will eventually lose everything they have.
Simply sitting on a pile of hardware and stroking your rifles with your eyes glazed over is not enough. The American public at large deals with the term "assault rifle" as an emotional issue rather than a practical matter, and you have to overcome that fear before you can have a meaningful dialogue. The fact that three cops were killed with an "assault rifle" yesterday didn't help the public's image of them.
The question remains, what sort of meaningful changes can be made to the laws to prevent a recurrence? For those who simply say "get rid of liberal judges", if you believe that the issue is really that simple and the solution can be reduced to a bumper sticker you are very much part of the problem with the image the public has of gun owners.
Continue with the short answers and you may one day actually get the opportunity to make having to defend yourself against the government a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Right.... that will work out well for you NAZI types. If you haven't noticed gun sales have increased dramatically. Lots of new owners too.
In the twentieth century, the United States government forced 100,000 United States citizens into concentration camps. [128] In 1941, American citizens of Japanese descent were herded into concentration camps run by the United States government. [129] Like the victims of other mass deportations, these Americans were allowed to retain only the property they could carry with them. Everything else--including family businesses built up over generations--had to be sold immediately at fire-sale prices or abandoned. [130] The camps were "ringed with barbed wire fences and guard towers." [131] During the war, the federal government pushed Central and South American governments to round up persons of Japanese ancestry in those nations and have them shipped to the U.S. concentration camps. [132]
The American concentration camps were not death camps. The American-held prisoners were subject to strict discipline, but not to mass murder. [133] After the American victory at Midway (http://www.peoples.net/%7Ecthawk/midway/enhanced.html - broken link) in June 1942, the threat of a Japanese landing on the mainland U.S. vanished, and the tide in the Pacific began to turn. [134] Nevertheless, the incarceration of Japanese-Americans continued long after any plausible national security justification had vanished.
I was wondering about exactly what type of rifle was used as well. Unless this was some sort of false flag attack. Usually the media can't wait to show the weapon(s) used in a crime on television. And I agree that CA gun laws are very strict for responsible gun owners. I wish Mexico would stop arming our criminals with military hardware.
The media can not identify weapons so they usually just label all of them assault weapons. Hardly ever do you hear they had a hand gun.
Here's one of the biggest problems that you have to overcome to avert an "assault weapons" ban. Four policemen shot in Oakland, CA, yesterday, three dead, by a felon with a high capacity rifle.
"Police said Mixon wielded two different weapons. One gun was used at the first scene and an assault rifle was used at the apartment building where he was hiding.
Jordan said Mixon had an "extensive criminal history" and was wanted on a no-bail warrant.
"(Mixon) was on parole and he had a warrant out for his arrest for violating that parole. And he was on parole for assault with a deadly weapon," said Oakland police Deputy Chief Jeffery Israel."
guns are not only for sport, and many of those are not assault weapons. for example, police handguns typically hold 14 rounds. They are trying to ban any handgun that can hold over 10....
And they are trying to ban any shotgun that holds over 5 shells. skeet shooting would be affected by that
Actually they are not banning the gun, but larger magazines. You'll need to use 10 round magazines.
too bad both republican and democrat presidents both would like the USA to be a good version of the USA. also the NRA is a very good gun control group. after all it was they who gave the federal goverment a compromise of the NICS check.
Some may consider it a tired and worn out rationale, but:
What part of "criminals don't abide by gun laws " do you anti-gun people not understand?
Really, it's not a hard concept to grasp.
I often wondered at the confusion myself.
