RAA, Russian American Firearms. Very inexpensive. I bought a 223 + 2 30 shot clips with tax for a little over $500 dollars. Less than 1/2 the competition and it has the ak action. for a couple a hundred more you can get a 308. boom boom!
Russian American Armory Company: Rifles (http://www.raacfirearms.com/rifles.htm - broken link)
If it really gets bad, there may be many combat rifles laying around on the ground for the picking if you surrive the first wave....big if.
the russian m44 mosin nagant is cheap surplus but the ammo is a killer buck a shot.
I understood your intent & didn't think you were trying to be anything but courteous & helpful. I'm not an expert either but I do know for sure & certain that what WE in the US commonly call simply the 9MM is the 9MM Luger. The Germans came up with it for an autoloader with a funny toggle link action. You probably seen them on TV.
Anyway its seen great popularity in Europe & we adopted it in the 80's as our military service round.
Heres a few links, 9x19mm Parabellum - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia What's the Difference Between 9mm Luger and 9mm Parabellum?
There is a 9MM Kurtz but I think thats just a metric name for .380
The .380 is definately a step down from 9MM in power & what this gun is replacing.
read the article really good. so this means that keltec will fire any standard 9mm. great news.

Also the 7.62x39 is about = to the old 30/30, not even ballistically in the same class as the 223 or 308. The latter can really reach out and touch someone where as the 7.62 will peter out.

Um...the mosin nagant family uses 7.62x54 which has similar ballistics to 30-06, and is more powerful than 308.

Say what? It's gone up but you can still find cans of surplus for them at about 80 or 90 dollars for 440 rounds. Russian made soft point hunting ammo for around $10 a box, give or take. I kind of have a preference though for S&B brand ammo, seems to be loaded hotter than most brands, but that ammo is expensive, about $1 a round. Getting even worse for my favorite round, 8mm mauser. American made 8mm is loaded to 30/30 levels rather than 30-06 levels like European ammo.

I'd rather use 7.62X39 than .223 any day. 7.62X54R is almost equal to a 30-06, even better than a 7.62X39, .223, or even .308...

7.62 is 30 calibre for all intents & purposes, although I think they use .311 bullets instead of 308s.
The 308 is called 7.62x51 Nato & the 06 has a metric name as well although I forget it. All I'm saying is that the numbers 7.62 dont mean much in & of themselves. The 7.62x39 is nowhere near a 308 or 06 & actually lags well behind the 30/30 at reasonable ranges. It catches up at longer ranges because it fires a lighter but more aredynamic pointed bullet.
All that aside I'd be comfy if all I had was a 7.62x39 of one type or other.
