Spokane, Wash., residents smuggle detergent because eco-friendly brands do not work as well -- chicagotribune.com

Kind of reminds me of how the left wants to lift bans on marijuana because people will use it no matter what and it only creates violence through illegal dealing and smuggling. Why the ban on phosphates? Why dont you "just tax the hell out of it" Washington??

I guess they want to protect the water supply in the state...how horrible!!

I see nothing wrong with legalizing marijuana. No use spending billions on the drug war when you can very easily legalize it and save the government time, money, and in some cases, lives.

How do you know the "detergent smugglers" are "lefties"?

That's my question as well.

Until it can be shown that they are on the left, there's no hypocrisy, and thus, no thread.

Well one could assume that the "smugglers" are on the right...they could care less about the environment and think the environment is just here for them to rape and pillage.

All the OP really cares about is making those on the left look bad.

No point in fighting it with bans, thats sooo old fashioned... they need to be progressive and advance their water treatment technology.

No no no.... the people placing the bans are the environmentalists. These smugglers are just people who enjoy clean dishes, can you blame them?

The phosphate ban was another of those feel good solutions the Spokane County commissioners put into effect. That county is really starting to get out of control on leftie issues. The mayor of Spokane is as much of a loon. As usual, when product decisions are determined by politicians rather than people that know what they are doing you end up with products that don't work. (Just like we'd expect with the government "managing" the auto industry). At least it has helped business in my state.

Sorry, but I only see hypocrisy if the same people who banned the detergents are smuggling them in.

Leftists want to lift bans on marijuana because it creates illegal trade.

Leftists place ban on phosphates which immediately created illegal trade.
