If you don't think socialism is characterized by large government spending/control , you need to go back to your studies son

Wow! That's impressive, daddy. I'm convinced.

I was taught in college (way back in the '70s. You're really old, daddy!) that socialism involved state or public ownership of the means of production. But since you disagree with that, I looked it up. Here define:socialism - Google Search . Please show me the definition describing socialism as "government spending," because I'm not seeing it.

According to this chart, conservative champion Ronald Reagan spent a higher percentage of GDP than the right's favorite "socialist," FDR.

Who would have thought that Reagan was more of a socialist than FDR!

What's the threshold in your definition of socialism, anyway. 10% of GDP? 20%? 30%?

defining socialism is like defining freedom. (or more like defining evil)
there is no official definition.

I'm not necessarily for or against one political party (like you). (you appear to just be another party line drone, drinking your party's kool aid at all costs, unable to think for yourself.)

I just want our country to be free from government oppression. The government is spending our future and you don't seem to care.

Uh, no. I'm an independent. I hate both paties. But that's entirely beside the point. Why are you changing the subject? Cat got your tongue?

Me too, but I don't feel oppressed. Do you?

Back to my question. Since you define "socialism" as "government spending," you must agree that between Reagan and FDR, Reagan was the socialist. I mean, it's your definition and your chart.

FDR had to finish off WW11 and Reagan had to finish off Communism. (that's why their figures were higher, they did what they had to do)

I think Bill Clinton was one of our best presidents. I think Obama is forcing us into a socialist platform. His spending is creating buracracies that will take 50 years to unwind and hundreds of years to pay for.

You can continue to be a mindless drone for your party, and use the same old arguments, but I'd recommend you think more objectively as to what' best for america.

1986, Reagan: 35.5% of GDP
2010, Obama: 41.3% of GDP

I already told you I'm independent. Did you miss that part?
