The last time a country was allowed to pursue nuclear power for peacetime purposes, they took the technology given to them by Canada and built their first nuclear weapon out of it...
Anyone care to guess what country it was?
France?
I think we need to manufacture more ammo and guns so that when the zombie army comes we will have enough ammunition to fight of the zombies.
The answer to frankie117 question is Canada has sold nuclear reactor technology to Argentina, Romania, South Korea, China, India, Pakistan. Our next sale may be a deal with Jordan and the Ukraine.
If the point alluded to is that Pakistan and A. Q. Khan have developed a nuclear program that may seem hostile, the nuclear technology for the manufacture of weapons grade material was supplied by China.
The reality here in Canada viewed by the AECL, and shared by myself is, though certain sales may not comply with the terms of the NPL, we are not going to shoot ourselves in the foot, while other competitor nations make lucrative sales.
If we hadn't sold the Candu reactor to South Korea, Germany was prepared to provide LWR reactors. Lwr reactors are the European answer to the Russian Wer-440 reactors that worked quite well in Chernobyl. Canada provides arguably the safest nuclear reactor on the market with the ACR-1000 and if you notice by the countries we have sold Canada is sensitive to selling to countries that were/are? on the 'other side' of the cold war. Many of the sales have had geopolitical reasons that benefit North Americans, read Canadians and Americans.
Nuclear exports like arms sales are often about control of regions, moreso than providing cheap electricity.

We are following a similar "guns and butter" strategy as implemented under LBJ, in which he had a functional economy. Ultimately, this strategy failed and he had to raise taxes.
Yes, it does seem that there is some truth to this and invading Iraq along with the reconstruction process certainly has contributed to our enormous debt and concern if we are overextending ourselves.
Referring to Afghanistan, Bin Laden says: "We, alongside the mujahideen, bled Russia for 10 years, until it went bankrupt and was forced to withdraw in defeat ... So we are continuing this policy in bleeding America to the point of bankruptcy."
How is Iran a threat to the United States if they want to persue nuclear power for peaceful purposes?
Why does the U.S pay Israel to have nuclear weapons and carry out an illegal occupation?
I, for one, am sick of Americans fighting and dying for Israel. And I am fed-up with the dual loyalties that many Jewish-Americans have and lobby for Israel through groups such as AIPAC, the ADL, etc.
so you would rather be friends with al queda and the taliban, who only want to see us dead???
Exactly!! Why ? Too much BUTTER!! Too much BUTTER!! It is time to follow Reagans philosophy, more guns less butter!!
We have enough guns. The US currently accounts for 48% of global military expenditure. We have roughly between 700-1,000 military bases abroad, operating in over 130 countries. Our desire to police the world is very costly and often it leads to negative consequences.
Now, we have the Dems in control. They was a change in power in 2006, but we are still funding the Iraq War effort and possibly for at another two years. Our military has been in the field for 8 years, but we feel the need to escalate two more wars while facing a severe economic crisis.
I understand the liberal philosophy for "butter" even though I often do show reluctance to it, typically regarding federal implementation, but I think we need to make a crucial decision between guns or butter, but our leaders do not feel that this choice is necessary, despite the possibility of unsustainable deficits combined with an increase in reluctance of other countries to lend us more money.
Can we afford a war?. Lol, the question is irrelevant since we already have one. Bought with the American way....on credit. Lol, anybody know what the prime plus rate is gonna be on this payment plan? Somebody didn't read the fine print.............
A few years back we did not have the unprecedented debt we have today.
Ah, a goodly portion of the present debt lies stinking in Iraq. Now where did you think the money for that war was coming from? It sure as hell wasn't being paid for with Bush's tax cuts.
Additionally, what troops would you suppose would be used in this upcoming war when you only have 12 combat brigades available the rest already committed to either Iraq/Afghanistan and other foreign deployments?
