Government news: we distort, you comply.

As if a Democrat-led Congress would allow a part of their propaganda arm fail.

Sen. Kerry thinks Congress should step in. It seems his paper, the Boston Globe is going down because the NY Times (who owns the Globe), has threatened to shut it down unless they make new cheaper union agreements.

Hmmm, like the government bailed out and controlled financial institutions and the auto industry? If the government gave some bucks to the auto industry and gave some bucks to the financial industry and is now trying to control them by telling them what kind of cars to make (auto), how they should make loans, who their CEO should/shouldn't be, will they be telling newspapers they bailout, what kind of stories to print and who has to run the papers?

Forget about throwing our money away, again, but if newspapers are going the way of the typewriter, Congress and the president have no business bailing them out. That it even might be considered is really dangerous territory in a free society.

Real Clear Politics says it won't happen. What do you think?

News/entertainment commercial media is bleeding badly right now and rightly so. While I have heard many pro-news types make the case for how important it is to keep a viable press, I agree. Thing is, our newspapers, tv, and cable media are no longer reasonable news as a whole. Too few are the articles written with the goal of presenting something as objectively as possible or just simply stating what happened. Today news media wants sensational news that sells and makes big bucks and profits for its share holders and in doing so, they turned news into a football game between op ed writers and sensation mongers.

As the NY Times and Washington Post cry out... where will the bloggers get the news they rehash and I only have to point to the many other sources of international events or even domestic online editions. Let them fade away with the dinosaurs.

What's the surprise? American newspaper readership has plummeted in the last 40 years. Newspapers use too many big words, print too many facts, and the average American mind gets confused. It's much easier to listen to Rush who simplifies everything so that an American with 4th grade level reading skills can still understand things, such as that democrats are actually commies in disguise. So why bother with any other sources for any news. For the really important events they tune in to ESPN. So who needs newspapers anyway? They're run by liberal elites, spew anti-American propaganda, and are the enemy of white, god-fearing, gun-toting, patriotic Americans.
This is a just another declining step in America's semi-literate culture. Has anyone noticed that less Americans know the difference between your and you're, there, their, they're and many other common mistakes?
Yes, god bless america!
