How do you feel about the legality of abortion?

I'd prefer if everyone would vote based on how they really feel and not simply choose the liberal or conservative stance only because they are liberal or conservative in most other areas. The poll is private and no comments are necessary, unless you wish to make one.

I can't vote for any catagory. I believe that abortion will have to remain legal until the end of the first trimester - about 12 weeks. After that, I believe it should be illegal except in extreme cases requiring two unaffiliated obgyns agreement.

I also would have liked the addition of education of other options available and a short waiting period. This is not something for rash decision making. Once the woman has been informed of other options and the details of the proceedure and has had time to think it over then it should be legal. After a certain period it should only be legal for medical reasons.

We agree on the two OBGYN's being required to approve of abortions. That is what I feel should apply even during the first trimester except in the case of rape.

I'm sorry that I didn't include a first trimester only option. I think your view generally, however, is compatible with the middle option - "it should be discouraged." When I put "etc," I meant that you may approve of restrictions in addition to those explicitly mentioned, but do not support banning it altogether.

Education of other options would definitely be included in the "etc" in the middle option.

In cases of rape and incest---yes! In all other cases I do believe that there should be a limit to how far into the pregnancy that it is allowed.23 or 24 weeks might be right but even that seems a bit long to me. The problem with consent from parents is that alot of kids might be so scared of confronting their parents that they might go too far into the pregnancy where it then might not be an option. Not all girls and women show until 5 or 6 months in, my wife was like that.Add that and the fact that some parents aren't always on top of things and kids could be going straight to bedrooms when they come home or staying out to all hours of the night or wearing baggy clothes. As much as parental permission sounds good,it is a bad deterrent.

The reason I said 23/24 weeks is that is when the fetus is "viable."

Thanks for the comment and, if you voted, for the vote.

I voted "Legal at any time during pregnancy at the woman's choice, even during the third trimester, for any reason"

It is not because I am a flaming liberal or something like that. The reason why I choose this is because I do not believe that the law or the government should tell women what to do with their bodies. It is nobodies business when or why you get an abortion.

Now, PERSONALLY, if it was me, I would not have an abortion at this point. But I understand I am one person and have no right to push my beliefs on to others. (It would be nice of others felt this way too, you know!)

I dont know what their situation may be. And in addition to that, I do remember a thread or a post on here that talked about a woman who was 7 months pregnant and found out that the babies spinal cord (or something along those lines) was not developing properly. The child would find it very difficult to live. She had an abortion at seven months. She was obviously upset about it (not pro abortion like some people think) but felt it was better for her. Even her father who was a Priest told her she should. She was disgusted with Bush and his laws regarding abortion because she knew first hand what goes on.

This is why I think it should be legal in all cirumstances. You just don't know. Plus I am an advocate of womens rights.

Please dont flame me. Keep this civil. I was asked for my opinion and gave it.

Abortion is wrong and killing babies is wrong.

HOWEVER,

Abortion should always be legal and available in the first trimester, and during the second and third only when the mother's life is in danger.

It should NEVER be illegal, because I would much rather it be done in a sterile environment by professional doctors, not in some back alley with a coat hanger. What I do have a problem with is taxpayer money funding abortions, if it is your choice, why should I have to pay for it?

Even though it should remain legal, we should do our best that abortion is not necessary in the first place.

And yes, I am one of those die hard Conservative Republicans..
