These are the Limbaugh listeners who reiterate Rush's statement that they hope President Obama fail. These are the Fox News watchers who think they are hearing truth when all they are listening to is propaganda, the kind of propaganda that supports their limited world view. Many of these are religious fundamentalists who are loathed to any social progressiveness based on diversity; based on the real world as it exists now and not as it existed in the 1800s.

Some of these people are so indoctrinated by a far-right-wing ideology, they no longer have access to the left side of their brains!

And no amount of reasoned argument and existential proof of President Obama's intelligence, commitment to the betterment of our country, or the eventual success of his policies, will turn some of these people into fans.

Fortunately, the percentage of people who support far-right-wing politicians and the Republican Party has drastically shrunk in the last year, and given the recent ridiculous behavior by Limbaugh, Palin, Boehner, and the vice that apparently is never going to go away, Dick "Darth-Vader" Cheney, those numbers will continue to plummet as some former right-wingers become more & more turned-off by the unreasonably harsh, holier-than-thou-judgmental and nasty-negative rhetoric of these Republican spokespersons. This means that some of these people are capable of changing.

That, of course, is good news. People are tired of trash-talk. Finally!

So take heart. There is little point in trying to convince the incurably far-right-wingers that they are wrong and are being 'left' behind. Continue to work for the betterment of this country with positive ideas and constructive words. Like President Obama, be positive, be smart, and be of good cheer. Better days are ahead. The worse is over, the Bush Administration is dead & gone. Amazingly, we did survive him and his incompetent, dishonest and corrupt administration even though there is much repair and reconstruction to be done. The Obama administration is up to the task. How did Obama propose to remake America, and which of those proposals do you and the editorial's author object to?

One of the ways we will get there is to hold accountable those who attempted to destroy those fundamental principles.

The Bush Administration knowingly and purposefully thwarted our Constitution in every way it could. They tortured, they lied and deceived, and they stole---they stole our money and they stole our freedoms! We must hold this former administration--each and every one of them--accountable for the crimes they committed.

We should not turn on backs on this, despite its difficulty and unpleasantness. The only way we can move forward is to wipe clean the past errors of the Bush Administration, with investigations, trials and convictions, as deemed appropriate.

Contact your congressional leaders and tell them they must conduct investigations into the misconduct and criminal activity of the Bush Administration.

A good portion of your post has merit. However, keep in mind that a NO vote for Obama does not necessarily equate to a YES vote for McCain. I, for one, thought McCain was the worst candidate to grace the Republican ticket in 30 years. I think you misunderstand Obama's popularity. As a person, he is highly regarded. His policies, however, arent' as popular. No matter what your political leanings, everyone ostensibly understands debt (especially in this current economic climate), and I personally don't think that it's completely lost on the electorate what it means to spend without a way to pay for it (unless we expect higher taxes). The American populace is giving Obama some room to breathe to enact his policies, but there will without a doubt come a time where he will be held accountable for his spend-crazy ways.

Well said.

I agree that there is concern over the economic direction Obama is taking this country, and rightfully so. We are in dire straits economically, with a deficit so high it's impossible to conceive the day when we might be free of this enormous debt. And to go deeper into debt? That seems unwise, naturally. However, there are many economists who support the type of spending Obama's policies propound. In fact, some economists suggest that Obama's budget does not go far enough to help pull this country out of its recession or possible depression.

We need to create jobs. In order to do that, to get middle America back to working, jobs need be created, and the government must be instrumental in implementing that. I believe that is the intent of Obama's policies. It truly is a situation where he is in between a rock and a hard place, so to speak.

In my joy (and relief) at finally having a highly intelligent and accomplished person as our president, I do sometimes engage in hyperbole, which in part has contributed to Obama's popularity (not mine alone, obviously--but those like me!). I recognize that no one person can achieve all things. However, I am still optimistic that if anyone can turn this nation around and get us on the right... um, I mean--correct track again, it is Mr. Obama.

If he fails, he should be held accountable, of course. Likewise, I believe the Bush Administration should be held accountable for all its ... errors (that's another topic, however).

If Obama succeeds, will his detractors give him the credit due? We shall see. Hopefully---we shall see.

No they won't. They'll justify his successes as being built on the framework set by the Bush administration. If he fails however... well, that'll be entirely his fault.

Well.. that'll be a hard sell. Because Bush left no framework for economic stability. But you're right... they'll try to convince people the economic recovery began before Obama took office. Maybe during ... Reagan's time? Oh yes! It's the ol' trickle-down way to financial well-being.

Yeah......riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

So untrue...I know you may take what you heard from attenting your "meeting of the minds" but it's not true.

Try taking a look at facts instead of what you have "heard"
