Mr. President, as you speak at Notre Dame today, you will be looking out on a group of young women who are approaching their prime time for child-bearing. Now flash forward 10 years, two of those young women are your girls. Imagine one or both coming to you to say, "you were going to be a grandfather, but I aborted the baby."
In that crowd of young women, some are going to do exactly that to their parents. Just imagine a grandparent's pain....
Lets stop unwanted pregnancies, but not after the fact.

I'm no Obama fan, but I've also had it up to here with religious zealots and their obsession with abortion. Your question makes absolutely no sense to me.
First, if the Catholic church believes abortion is wrong....they have the right to believe that and enforce that belief with their members. A private Catholic university has the right to choose who speaks to its students at graduaton, and if the President doesn't meet the standard, then he shouldn't speak.
As for the larger question....abortion is legal. What a women does with her own body is up to her and no religion or government has more right than she does to make that choice. You believe abortion isn't correct...then don't have one.
Personally, I would rather have unwanted children aborted, especially if they may be abused or worse or may be wards of the taxpayers. Not everyone is meant to be a parent. Young kids shouldn't be having children, nor should the very poor or those with other kids they already can't take care of properly.
I have a 15 year old daughter. I would hope she doesn't become pregnant, and we've taught her well. If she does the wrong thing and becomes pregnant, I will not throw away her life...she will have an abortion.

If you raise your girls right, that would not happen. i'm sure that the President and others like him communicate very effectively with their sons and daughters so that they come to them if that would happen. In my family, my sister became pregnant 15 years ago when she was a senior in high school. she decided to have her baby boy, whom we are extremely proud of. It's not been an easy 14 years for her, since she has had to rely on my parents for much support after she divorced her no child support giving husband . bottom line is that we are glad that she did not abort, but i still believe that a woman should have that choice, not the government.

I'm not a religious zealot or religious at all, but I'm against abortion. Funny that you automatically put the two together.

We also have a right to work to have the laws changed (by "we" I mean pro-lifers...NOT Catholics as I am not a Catholic).

There's adoption.
There's also not becoming pregnant in the first place. There are so many different contraceptives available. The "young kids" you mention shouldn't be having sex at all.

You'd force her to have an abortion? That's actually illegal.
He would think, "Her body, her choice. I have no right to control any woman's body. Her right to control her body supercedes any desire I have to be a grandfather."

When men can carry a baby to term, they get an opinion.
Until then, if you're a man against abortion, keep it in your pants, and use it only when the woman you're partnering is going to have your baby and raise it properly.

What do you mean, if you raise your girls right, etc? By your own accounting, your sister got pregnant in high school. I will assume she was raised "right". It only takes one moment of passion, or what passes for passion with HS kids, do mess up your life for a long time to come. I'm glad your sister made the right choice for her.

when i said that, i meant to say that my sister communicated her pregnancy with our parents. she didn't go sneak off somewhere and do it alone. i am sure that my parents did the best they could for her just like they did for me. the right to abort a fetus properly belongs to the individual and should not belong to an archaic medieval stodgy religion (Catholics) headed universally by men. A man can never know what it feels like to abort. It is a personal decision best left to the family involved.
