They basically said the proposition is an unlawful amendment to CA's constitution. Also interesting was how the said that all people do not have the 'inalienable' right to marry but that inalienable doesn't mean there can't be restrictions.
I count this as a victory for now but have no doubt that we'll be seeing this at the Fed Supreme Court some day.
I guess my main question is do people feel this is more of an issue about being anti-gay or is it an issue about religion?
There's already another thread on this...but it will interest you to know that an appeal has been filed in federal court. There's already a thread on that one too.
It's got nothing to do with either really. It's all about being scared by meaningless propaganda.
I don't know if I would call it meaningless propaganda because it has a lot of meaning for people who are against gay marriage. Gays basically should not be allowed to get married because as a group they do not deserve to be treated equally. People's deep beliefs in that is impossible to deny and is the very obstacle that the other side is trying to overcome.
I'd agree that the younger generation is pro-gay marriage so it's probably just a matter of time until it becomes law. Fortunately, we have a very old Supreme Court so they aren't likely to change anything for another 20 or 30 years at least.
