Meanwhile, news reports quoting the semi-official Fars news agency directly accused the United States of interference in the disputed election, summoning the Swiss ambassador, who represents American interests in Tehran, to complain of “interventionist” statements.

. . .

The Iranian Foreign Ministry officials, without being specific about which comments they were reacting to, expressed “protest and displeasure,” the news agency said.

. . .

Reuters reported that Mohammadreza Habibi, the senior prosecutor in the central province of Isfahan, had warned demonstrators that they could be executed under Islamic law.

“We warn the few elements controlled by foreigners who try to disrupt domestic security by inciting individuals to destroy and to commit arson that the Islamic penal code for such individuals waging war against God is execution,” Mr. Habibi said, according to the Fars news agency. It was not clear if his warning applied only to Isfahan or the country as a whole, Reuters said.

Obama understands that ONLY the people of Iran can change THEIR situation. McCain is still a doofus.

If we meddle in Iran we make the mullahs and current Iranian president look right in their fierce condemnation of the USA.

We have to "lead by example" as a great nation, as THAT is what will win the hearts and minds of Iranians, and will ultimately free them. When the people of Iran want it badly enough, they'll do what has to be done. They're getting there.

The PEOPLE of Poland, Lech Walesa, et al, peacefully booted out the corrupt communist dictators in Warsaw and Moscow.

Are you kidding?
Just as liberals blame Bush for all that is wrong in America, Iran lays it's ills on the doorstep of the USA.
Why would you believe anything that emanates from that country?

Oh, I'm sure everyone engaging in the protests in Iran got their marching orders from Senator McCain in the United States.

It's bad enough when people inside Iran believe their propaganda, but when US citizens fall for it, it's really pathetic.

The President warned about this very thing yesterday:

"Either way, we were going to be dealing with an Iranian regime that has historically been hostile to the United States, that has caused some problems in the neighborhood and is pursuing nuclear weapons.
...
The second thing that I think's important to recognize is that the easiest way for reactionary forces inside Iran to crush reformers is to say it's the US that is encouraging those reformers."

The Daily Dish | By Andrew Sullivan

It is very clear to me that the President knows exactly what he is doing, and, he is doing the right thing in this situation.

As for Senator McCain, we're supposed to listen to ideas about diplomacy from the man who sang 'Bomb, bomb, bomb Iran?'

No, I'm not kidding. I wouldn't believe a word out of their mouths if we hadn't actually said the things they're accusing us of saying!

John McCain, John Boehner et al are not diplomats. They're not in the Cabinet. They're not Secretary of State. Their big fat mouths are jeopardizing the very lives of the protesters. They need to sit down and shut the hell up.

Not very bright are we.

Your argument completely and utterly misses the point, which is, the U.S. should not give the Iranian government any excuse to charge that the opposition is backed by the U.S., something that Sen McCain et al., fail to understand in their egotistic obsession with waving the flag, when waving the flag is counter productive.

You're missing the point quite a bit. I don't think anyone here believes that's the case. But Ahmadinejad has successfully used the evil oversees empire builders as the boogeyman in his propaganda, and McCain is playing right into that.

His statement is a propaganda victory for Ahmadinejad and helps the people on the ground not one iota. Not very constructive.

They will make one up as they always have.
Or do you bestow the quality of honesty onto the Iranian regime?
Goof.

Are you saying the right wing blowhards DIDNT open their faces on this issue?

If McCain were president he'd be taking soldiers out of Georgia and Ukraine and moving them into Tehran right about now.

Obama is keeping cool and doing the right thing.
