Congress's Travel Tab Swells - WSJ.com

so it's not o.k. for companies to travel to Vegas on business because they received tax payer bailout money....
yet, members of congress can go to the galapagos islands to "study global warming".

As usual, I'm confused!!!

You're comparing apples and oranges.
Did the congressman get bail outs?

Sure, I'd like to see this stuff stop, but try to find a real basis for comparison.
Yours didn't make sense.

Stupidity seems to have a big head start on hypocrisy. Business travel is a fairly common thing and has been for...um, centuries...

Yea, in this day and age of belt tightening, that seems to be lost of some members of congress. Note to congresspeople: When wanting to travel on the taxpayer's dime, 2 words of advice:

not now.

Belt-tightening only worsens the situation. Unless there are valid personal reasons for cutting back, people should be trying to accelerate spending, not limit it. There are bargains galore out there right now, you know...definitely a buyer's market. Why let it all pass you by....

Yeah you can say they got a bailout they are paid for by taxpayers same as the bailouts both paid for by tax payers

No, he is comparing apples to nuts.

Companies produce things and make money (fruit, apples).

Congress bungles things and spends money (nuts).

The SAD thing is going to Vegas on Business Stimulates their economy as they are tourism driven. And taking million dollar bonuses is ok if you got bailout so is going and partying on your big yacht, and hoarding the money and not giving loans to people, bailing out GM is ok even if they will go bankrupt a few months later, is all ok.

But our Congress has nobody telling them NO. they just want want want.........

From the linked article:

Quote:
The spending on overseas travel is up almost tenfold since 1995, and has nearly tripled since 2001, according to the Journal analysis of 60,000 travel records. Hundreds of lawmakers traveled overseas in 2008 at a cost of about $13 million. That's a 50% jump since Democrats took control of Congress two years ago.
Overseas travel is not stimulating the economy in the U.S., so that angle is moot.
