It is truly startling how economically illiterate some Americans are.

. The stimulus package never was intended to help the economy. It was just a TON of pork, pent up demand for various special interest groups.

I don't believe for a minute that Biden or anyone in the Obama administration didn't know exactly how bad the economy was. BTW,there were plenty of people who saw this economic meltdown coming years in advance, One of my favorites is

He is using the wrong economist, can't you see that?

The economy was doing just fine until the loons took over in 2007, get the facts.

Double standard loons whined about Bush spending a dime and Obama is spending us into the year 3000 and you are fine with that?

He is a job killing machine and no matter the money he spends this is his baby.

So far I give him all the credit in the world for destroying America, afterall he and your loon friends do have total control of the country ya know.

Since when has the GOP ever had credibility when it has come to the economy... Why do you think Obama and the Dems are in power and your GOP is not? "It's the economy stupid".

If that's the case they won't be in power come 2010, remember a fella named Jimmy Carter?

To think this economic tsunami of debt left over from 8 years of malfeasance is going to somehow cure itself is pure fantasy, it requires massive stimulus or we end up with another Depression. We have Herbert Hoover to show us how cutting spending will end up for the country. We have FDR to remind us how investment in America can jump start a recovery. The Depression lasted for a decade, this is not going to be a quick fix.
I agree that Bush to a large extent caused this crisis, which has revealed America's flaws, and could be it's undoing.
The trillion dollar war to remove Saddam has caused more taxpayer drain and life drain than the Vietnam war. For what? To replace a secular tyrant with Fundamentalist Islamic tyrants? And the cost will continue to drain America as disabled vets come home looking for the medical treatment they deserve.
The flaws revealed are America's lack of a basic economy. The manufacturing and computer jobs have been outsourced. The financial and service jobs which replaced them are now in shambles. This decline will continue because there is nothing to stop it.
The so-called 'stimulus' is merely the goverment trying to stop job loss. Once the band-aid falls off, the bleeding will accelerate. The bailout of 'companies too large to fail' was a mistake, and it started under Bush. If we took our medicine earlier, it would have been better than the disease becoming inoperable later. Only permanent jobs will stem the bleeding, and I don't see that happening.
I am in agreement with Gerald Celente - this 'recession' will surpass the 'Great Depression' easily when all is said and done.

There should be another option to the poll:

No - We misread the effectiveness of the stimulus. Becuase how can something be stimulative when it's not spent?

Answer Desk: Slow stimulus spending - Answer desk- msnbc.com

So not spending the first stimulus means it is now time for a second stimulus?

Quote:
"We should be planning on a contingency basis for a second round of stimulus," Laura D'Andrea Tyson, a member of the panel advising President Barack Obama on tackling the economic crisis. said on Tuesday.
U.S. Should Plan 2nd Fiscal Stimulus: Economic Adviser - ABC News

The BEST solution would be to cancel the stimulus, return those funds to the treasury and let the economy recover on its own. Since by not spending the stimulus funds, which is the present course, that is effectively what is happening anyhow. So why 'spend' billions to do nothing when spending nothing to do nothing is a whole lot cheaper?

Did you really expect a bunch of lawyers to figure out how to solve this country's economic woes? -- really, now!
