Dude, he straight-up plagiarized! That's the ultimate no-no in academia.

I agree that they probably went over his cv with a fine-tooth comb after his provocative (and personally offensive) essay, but for me, it's analogous to finding a murdered person in the trunk of the car you parked at a fire hydrant.

If the plagarism had been trumped up, that would have been a very different story. He shot his mouth off, and that led to the discovery of his *real* crime.

I hope he rots in a community college lecturing the uninterested and apathetic.

According to the link the jury ruled in his favor. The Judge reasoned that because the damages were nill and because State's are immune from damages he gets nothing....but on the merits of the case he won.
The jury awarded him a dollar - he was not a sympathetic figure.

That's why I said "putting that aside" should Churchill have lost his job soley because of his views and statements????
But he didn't lose his job "soley" or otherwise, because of his views and statements.

Can you bring yourself to defend free speech Mr. Conservative??
Free speech does not need to be defended in this case.

Whether one likes or dislikes the man, many people could stand guilty of the sin of "plagiarizing", including about 80% of college students (or would it be more like 90%?)

Oh, I guess it's all how one defines "plagiarize".

Is your voice one of protest and defiance in corporate America?

You're gone. Goodbye. Go along to get along.

That is Ms Conservative, thank you very much

But of course he shouldn't be fired for the content of his essays/papers/lectures. He was hired to - in part - give his pov.

Now lets not pretend that the American university system in a conservative place. Far from it. One of my brothers is a professor at a state university and he had to hide his conservative politics for fear of not getting tenure to the point that he actively avoided socializing with those few tenured professors who were conservative or republican.

So tell me Mr./Ms Liberal -- does that sound fair? Should those few and far between conservative professors be forced to hide their political leanings for fear of not getting tenure?

Seriously, academia is not a bastion of conservative thought. In the least.
Also, while it may be somewhat common for undergraduates to plageriaze it is not common or acceptable for professors to do so. At all. If any professor is caught plagiagizing he will kiss his academic career goodbye.

I would also say that if a student is caught, the consequences can be significant. I know a guy that automatically failed the course and warned that he could be kicked out of school.

Don't you mean Miss Conservative?

Wasn't the phrase Ms made up by leftists/feminists?

No that doesn't sound fair either.
