Haha! That is the Republican's plan in a nutshell. Thank goodness Obama is fixing the healthcare system in America.

It just boggles me how so many of my republican friends say that Universal Health Care is socialism and will bring our country to its knees.

Every first world country in the world has a UH except America! I tell them this and they say "well, those people in those countries have to wait hours in the ER even if they just got stabbed!" I call bee es on that one. One of my friends just got back from a six month stay in Rome (student exchange program). He said that while he was there he had to get rushed from a nightclub to a hospital to have surgery on his eye. He said he got admitted immediately and he didn't have to pay a thing except 12 euros for the pain medication following the procedure. Keep in mind that he didn't pay a dime in taxes, and he still got this procedure on the spot. I asked if that was because of a student health care program. He told me everyone in the country gets that same coverage.

I argue all these points with them and eventually, the truth comes out of each of them. "I don't want to pay higher taxes for Univeral Healthcare. Why should I have to pay for poor people's health coverage?!" Haha! Pure greed. It makes me laugh even more when I ask "So....Who pays for your heatlh insurance?" and they say "Uh....My parents. Don't yours?" NOOOO! Not all of us are fortunate enough to be middle class and have parents that can afford to take 250 bucks out of their pay checks to pay for their kids health insurance.

I hope Obama pushes this through ASAP.

Sweet. I look forward to your also paying a premium to help contribute to the system. It's not going to be free after all.
Generally speaking, younger poorer workers will be hardest hit in paying for the UHC costs from what I've read.
(This is where you start to find out that Obama is indeed a moderate, and a shrewd politician at that.)

State run motorist insurance pools (for bad drivers) generally work under similar priciples. Several good papers on why it's a social benefit.

I wonder about these people who don't want to pay higher taxes for UHC. Don't they notice that their health insurance premiums, already insanely high, go up 10-20% a year?

No, not free, but cheaper than what we have now.

OHHHHH, I see, your one of those who believe Obama will hand you everything for free. Keep dreaming. You have no idea what the intricacies are of the Italian healthcare system. So please do not come on here, praise you beloved leader, bash republicans and act like you know something. For one thing in European Doctors do not have to pay out their ass for mal practice insurance because their society is not filled with a bunch of greedy litigious drones.

You know how that will happened, rationed healthcare. Any savings from taking profit out of the system will be more than eaten up by insuring 40 million people. Costs do not magically disappear. The governement will decided what treatment you get. Before the dopes come crawling out of the wood work saying insurance companies now decide your healthcare don't forget you can change insurance companies good luck changing governements.

I heard that it might be the top 1-2% that will have to have their taxes increased or tax cuts rolled back. No reason that they cannot afford to take one for the team. The end result is a healthier, happier more productive citizenry and without the middle class, there is no 1-2% anyway.

Costs will indeed disappear.

Why on earth should someone make a profit from your doctor visit? Other than the doctor, that is?

What other essential services would you agree to pay a middle man for? Should your trips to the grocery store fill the coffers of a third party money handler?

Ill wager you on that. What do you think all the Mcdonalds are going to close once Obama passes his healthcare reform?
