About time there is someone to coordinate the clean up and managment of the lakes. We have been abusing this resource for far to long and the lakes need to be cleaned up in order to protect the greatest freah water supply on the planet.

Wonder why socialist France doesn't have a "Seine River czar" or why Germany doesn't have a "Rhine/Mosul river czar"?
Perhaps we are enlightened with the wisdom to create these do-nothing position?

We need to protect our great lakes, as other states now want to steal our water, now that they have overgrown their own resources (or the non-existent Global Climate Change, dries up all their water supplies).
obama is just continuing the bush legacy
the Bush administration oversaw development of a wide-ranging strategy for protecting and restoring the lakes that was presented in December 2005, but little funding was provided afterward. Legislation to carry out the plan has been introduced in the U.S. House and Senate.
During the campaign last year, Obama pledged $5 billion over a decade toward implementing the plan. His proposed 2010 budget seeks $475 million in new spending on the lakes.
of course, the fact that we don't have the money to fund it isn't going to stop anyone.........
Davis is president of the Alliance for the Great Lakes, one of the organizations that has lobbied for implementation of a restoration program expected to cost more than $20 billion.
Quote:
Davis will coordinate efforts of about a dozen federal agencies working on the Great Lakes project,
OK, twenty billion of our money and "about a dozen" (lol) federal agency's involved?! This project is Boondoggle defined.
Of course the liberal drones are all for it, believing government "works" along with the tooth fairy and the easter bunny.

The intention to clean up the lakes is great. This administration (and past)just have no idea how to implement good ideas.
Hey View - What makes you so certain France and Germany don't have a "Czar" for their major river systems? They have been managing those rivers for centuries and I doubt if they are doing it piecemeal.

Like this project with "about a dozen" federal agencies involved?
