Used Auto Parts, Junk Yards Online and Used Car Parts

After being stripped the cars are crushed and sent to a mini mill for remelting and reforming into washers, dryers and razor blades.
The rubber is recycled and many times becomes part of an asphalt mix for roads and parking lots (glass is mixed in also for parking lots) and liquids are drained and recycled. Recycled rubber is also being used as a soft playground mulch. Real expensive to buy but lasts forever.

If junk cars were pigs everything but the squeal would be used.
Thanks for the junk lesson. That actually makes my point stronger. Lets get these clunkers off the streets and get them recycled..Sounds good

I keep reading the canard over and over again. I find it interesting in a period of extreme credit wariness on the part of lenders that conservative critics of the program assume, without any justification, that the 250,000 participants in the program are bad credit risks or have a high potential for defaulting on car loans (if the even get car loans). Also, I find it fascinating that these same critics argue that people with the financial ability don't drive "clunkers" as defined by the program.

As for the "perfectly" good cars, again, what basis does one have for making such an argument, based upon the stated objectives and criteria of the program?

"Lured by the government's cash-for-clunkers campaign, car and truck buyers started to return to Ford Motor Co. showrooms last month, with the automaker reporting its first U.S. sales increase in nearly two years.

July sales of Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury light vehicles rose 1.6 percent from the same month last year. Ford sold 158,354 vehicles, a 2.2 percent increase over last month and a sign that consumer fears that fueled the worst U.S. auto sales slump in a quarter-century may be easing. "

"The program's official Web site buckled under a flood of requests to process transactions, leaving dealerships uncertain about whether the sales qualified. And some car sellers say they are out as much as $1 million because the government has been slow to process reimbursements."

"Congressional leaders from Michigan on Friday questioned officials from the Transportation Department about how the program is administered, whether dealers are reimbursed in a timely fashion, and on technical glitches that have made it difficult to determine how many exchanges have taken place and how much money has been paid out. "

"He has taken in 260 clunkers but has yet to receive the roughly $1 million he says the government owes him. His staff recently spent eight hours on the government's Web site trying to process one claim. "

U.S. Car Dealers Concerned ‘Clunkers’ Money Already Running Out - Bloomberg.com

"The trade group for U.S. auto dealers is concerned that the government’s $1 billion program to get older, less fuel-efficient vehicles off the road will run out of money before the retailers can get reimbursements.

“It’s a real concern,” John McEleney, chairman of the National Automobile Dealers Association in Washington and the operator of General Motors Co., Toyota Motor Corp. and Hyundai Motor Co. outlets in Iowa, said yesterday. “It’s obviously not going to last through the end of October and it may not last another week.” "

"NADA has expressed its concerns to the Transportation Department about diminishing funds, primarily because dealers are required to destroy the “clunkers” before they can apply for the government reimbursement. They must put sodium silicate in the engine and run it, which ruins it beyond repair. If the money runs out and the car is already destroyed, the car dealer would be stuck with a ruined car and no reimbursement."

Ummm, so let me get this straight. Dealerships are saying, "Heck yeah we're participating." when they have no idea how the program works or what qualifies??

Beautiful!!!

Okay, that's 240,000 cars multiplied by $4500 .... Now granted that puts us slightly over at $1,080,000,000.00.... However, that's under the assumption that all 240,000 of these cars qualified for the maximum $4500 back....

So it's run a bit over at this point, but nothing catastrophic....

Now what I laugh about is that the same people who whine about the Dems' spending also seem to think that the Dems won't get money to pay these dealers back for this program... Somehow that seems like a paradox to me.

Uh...their paychecks? That's just a wild guess based on my own personal experience. Where do you come up with funds to pay down a loan?

Try to follow genius.... You're attempting to blame the Cash for Clunkers program for potentially poor financing decisions....

Hey, if a bank or dealer finances these people, it ain't the program's fault...
