Considering how much the loony right loves forwarding emails and siting crazy bloggers, this shouldn't be a problem.

The title of this thread "Obama wants to monitor your emails" is so misleading I have to question if you know what the word "monitor" means.
and all Woodrow Wilson asked was for the postman general and other citizens to let the white house know of people who were in opposition to WWI and other government programs.... we all know how that ended.

Did Bush have people reporting back to him your every move like Obama wants? NO he did not.
who is to say that someone opposed to Obama's plans is not a "suspicious character"? after all his administration labeled anyone in opposition to his plans as radicals, and extremists.

both were wrong on many different levels.

No, Obama doesn't want to know everything I am doing.

Obama has asked for VOLUNTARY help from CONSTITUENTS in letting him know what kind of misinformation is circulating about the health care plan. Industry-backed Republican media fear this--and are twisting it into some kind of nefarious plot to "monitor" Americans' emails--because they don't want to be exposed for the liars that they are.

You seriously need to come out of the conspiracy theory dungeon in which you are currently residing.
and Woodrow Wilson asked his constituents in letting him know who was critical of the government. (hint, it ended with political prisoners.)

Silly question, of course you would.

They're not asking for names, they're interested in disinformation so that the issues can be addressed.
Did you even read past the first paragraph?
Silly me to think that you would.

You know, disinformation, like the kind of bunk that we shoot down every day on CD.
It's that simple.

Anything else after that is just being willfully stupid.

It's no game. It would be common courtesy on your part to support your argument with an analysis of what you claim are the "identical[ness]" between and intent behind the two texts. You don't want to, that's fine. But your unsubstantiated claim is nothing more than than that.

There is a lot of disinformation about health insurance reform out there, spanning from control of personal finances to end of life care. These rumors often travel just below the surface via chain emails or through casual conversation. Since we can’t keep track of all of them here at the White House, we’re asking for your help. If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to flag@whitehouse.gov.

Section 3 of the Sedition Act of 1918

Section 4 of the Sedition Act of 1918
When the United States is at war, the Postmaster General may, upon evidence satisfactory to him that any person or concern is using the mails in violation of any of the provisions of this Act, instruct the postmaster at any post office at which mail is received addressed to such person or concern to return to the postmaster at the office at which they were originally mailed all letters or other matter so addressed, with the words "Mail to this address undeliverable under Espionage Act" plainly written or stamped upon the outside thereof, and all such letters or other matter so returned to such postmasters shall be by them returned to the senders thereof under such regulations as the Postmaster General may prescribe.

on and on and on.

Essentially "let us know of any wording that is 'fishy' and we will deal with it"

The sedition act ended with over 2000 people imprisoned for voicing their opinions, opposition to many different things.

Interesting reading. Thank you! I admit if Bush were doing this, I'd be having a fit, so I guess what is good for the goose...Quite frankly, it seems amateurish of the White House to be doing this, when a special interest group could have done it and thereby avoided such comparisons.

But you honestly believe that this will eventually lead to the imprisonment of people in this country?
