TEHRAN, Iran - Iran said Tuesday the three Americans who strayed across the border from Iraq are under arrest for illegal entry and claimed their case is being used by the West for propaganda. State media cast doubt on whether they were really hikers who lost their way, saying Western reports identified some as journalists.
First, if you're hiking in Iraq or Iran, you're an idiot.
Secondly, given the state of things in that area and our relationship with Iran, I'm not surprised that they detained them. Why wouldn't they? I wish we protected out border that effectively.
It varies with the country, I suppose you could say. It seems some countries get VERY upset with two or three illegal entrants, while others see 15 or 20 Million illegals as "not that big a problem". Some countries debate whether THEIR illegals should be allowed to get food stamps, educations, and drivers' licenses, while OTHER countries debate whether illegals should be imprisoned, shot, or just held for ransom for a few months before being deported. It all depends on the 'host' country....and how that country perceives other countries.
