You know . . . these kinds of off-topic comments, meant to "one-up" and create hostility, are what keeps most threads from staying civil on this forum.

What the heck does it matter what I think about Gates? We are talking about Paglia.

What she is saying is that neither party is operating with the American publics best interest at heart - or anywhere else for that matter. We as a people need to realize we are being manipulated into believing the us vs them hype when in reality the only 'us vs them' is the American public vs the politicians.

There is a lot of truth to this but I would add that the 'us vs them' is the American public vs the politicians and the lobbyist that own them.

Default Obama Fan Camille Paglia Says DC is Cloud Cuckoo Land

Well, here's Ms Camille Paglia, and voter for and admitted fan of the President, saying his administration grotesquely mishandled healthcare reform.

Vague and slippery promises
The president is promoting the most colossal, brazen bait-and-switch operation.
Why the insane rush to pass a bill
Obama's aggressive endorsement of a healthcare plan that does not even exist yet.
Wants Nancy Pelosi (clearly gone off the deep end with her bizarre rants) to step down
Massive boondoggle of the stimulus package, which Obama foolishly let Congress turn into a pork rut

Obama's healthcare horror | Salon

She still supports him... I wonder what it will take for people to get rid of their "awe" of him and realize what he is doing...

It is indeed a sad day when even Obama's own Liberals are questioning him in this light.

salon is a pretty liberal website but they have had very critical commentaries on obama's health care plan, including one from robert reich, headlined "The White House deal with Big Pharma undermines democracy".

Obama's agreement with Big Pharma may help healthcare reform pass, but it may also mean higher drug prices for you.

Fair enough.

So, now let's take a look at the second part of her sentence.

She says her party is "drifting towards soulless collectivism."

What is "soulless" about providing all citizens with equal base-level health care? Do we become robots if we do that?

I think everyone's health needs being a shared concern is soulFUL.

But I guess "soul" is now defined as the desire to get rich. Or, perhaps the desire for small government and low taxes.
