How do you know that he's "straight off the boat." My relatives came here decades ago and still have a strong accent.

Public health care would work perfectly fine here. But the right-wing has ginned-up its ignorant base with a bunch of outrageous lies, and so they run around parroting what they've been told. They don't have a clue what they're talking about. They're actually quite tragic figures. They are arguing against their own interests. All it took to get them riled-up was a little right-wing jingoism.

This whole public-health-care-is-a-socialist-plot-to-take-down-America shtick is so stupid. The right wing has overplayed its hand.

Our rights were enumerated by the founders. Healthcare is not one of them.
so you think someone who is your cashier, washes and waxes your car, does your drycleaning, prepares your fast food or your waiter etc don't deserve healthcare because they don't pay as much taxes as you? maybe it's because they don't make as much. lol

Who is proposing free health care? It's not in ANY of the bills on the table currently.

He's lived here for 21 years. That's longer than some of the posters on this forum have been alive. I think he probably knows a few things by now.

And I hate the argument that some countries can do something, but our country can't because it's big. I thought this country was the best country in the history of the Universe, yet we can't do something that a little country does?

Our rights were enumerated by the founders. Healthcare is not one of them.
Nor was it precluded that legislation could be passed to provide it, not that anyone has suggested it be free.

The thing I don't get is.... our health care system costs more than any of the nationalized, single payer or UHC found in other western industrialized countries. And, our rankings for overall health care in the US is poor!

It's not free... but we are currently paying more now than just about everyone else! And I don't think that co-ops or crossing state lines would change that as long as it was still in the control of private insurance companies.

I will say this... and it's depressing. The misinformation and down right lies put out there by the right fronted by Americans for Prosperity, FreedomWorks and their ilk has been effective. They have misrepresented themselves as grass roots, not only at the town halls but by putting up sites like patients first which sound quite neighborly until you find out FreedomWorks and Dick Armey, who want to end Medicare and Social Security, are behind them. And yet, there are folks out there that don't see what's behind the false claims that are being put forth.

I could go on... but I ain't going to change anyone's mind here on the right and those that are liberal here already agree with me... I think.

The right plays a tough but slimey game and frankly, there are times I wish Obama would stop trying the bipartisan stuff and kick ass.

Gawker is funny about it --

Town Hall Wingnuts Go Through the Ideological Rabbit Hole - Gawker
As you can see from the look of terror that crosses this woman's face when the Israeli challenges her—"I'm a Jew! You're telling me, ‘Heil Hitler'? Shame of you!"—she appears to have briefly forgotten which one she is. In the most cosmic of ironies, she is wearing an Israeli Defense Forces t-shirt, so it's not likely that she's a rabid neo-Nazi. Still, you can see in her eyes that she is frantically checking an exhaustive catalog of political outrages in the back of her mind—which is worse, supporting healthcare reform, or yelling "Heil Hitler" at a Jew?
her shirt, that IS ironic
