No, that's not what "the founding fathers" believed.

In any case, if you had read the article you would know--as though everybody doesn't already know--that deregulation by the government resulted in a lower standard of living for most Americans, as well as the economic mess we are now in.

First of all it's a New York Times op-ed peice, secondly it's byPaul Krugman, as shrill partisan shill for the Obama administration as Begala was for Clinton. Put the two together and all you'll get is Reagan=Bad, GOP=Bad. They are incapable of anything but rigid, progressive doctrinaire thinking.

The government is "we the people" and only the government has the power to maintain the rights of the weak and disadvantaged. Without government overseeing equal rights and well being of the citizens of this country, those factions, such as corporations, that monopolize needed commodities, such as oil, will gain control and power.

Do you want to live in a country with corporate fascism where a very small percent is blatantly wealthy and the vast majority work for slave wages just to keep out of full blown poverty? This is where we will be headed if we do not support our government!

Typical right-wing response. IMMEDIATELY, you politicize it. The content is irrelevant. What's important is that it comes from a liberal. From that realization on, you're not interested.

Reagan WAS bad, in terms of domestic policy, if not foreign policy. Very bad, indeed. And TODAY'S GOP is full of lunatics, although that hasn't always been the case.

I'm a liberal. Probably left of liberal. But I still read conservative articles. For example, I think George Will has written some observant and astute pieces over the years (although he's dead wrong on climate change). It's idiotic to reject a point of view based merely on the writer's political affiliation. The content is what is important.

Wrong. The content is very relevant. The NYT threw away any pretense of political neutrality long ago, all their content is suffused with a leftist/progressive partisan slant. To pretend they are neutral is ignorant. And there is nothing objective about Paul Krugman, every word in the NYT that comes out of him is politicized.

Bwhahahaha!!! Paul Krugman? Does anyone listen to him anymore?

I guess there'll always be a place for witchdoctors.
