Parallels between then and now...
Currently, we have many demagogues that claim Obama is converting America to communism. The believers eat it up, hook, line, and sinker. Not much has changed; a large segment of the population is gullible enough to believe anything. I guess if Glen Beck announced that martians have invaded, his loyal listeners would probably grab their guns and fearfully flee to their basements for protection or stand guard at their windows ready to shoot the first space alien they see.
