Just a reminder that today is the 44th anniversary of America's use of the first WMD in history.

Funny how the country who perpetrated the first use of WMD falsely accuse other nations of WMD development.

Funny how those who make such statements either forget the facts or make up a few as they go.
Fact: Japan was given numerous opprotunities to surrender. They declined
Fact: Japan had a well earned reputation for fanatical behavior. saipan comes to mind as does Iwo Jima
fact: Japan had a nuke program of their own and were not far from having success.
Fact: It did save lives on bothsides given the fanatical behavior of the Japanese Military.
Fact: More people died in the fire bombings than from the two nukes.
Fact: Japan murdered more people in 1 Chinese city than both A-bombs combined. Nanking Nanking Massacre - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hmmm....

2009 - 1945 = 44?

Before you go around making stupid, idiotic comments about countries and WMD, try learning the history and the facts. Dropping the bombs actually saved between 500,000 and 1 million American lives and probably more Japanese lives. The invasion of Okinawa produced huge numbers of casualties and the invasion of the home islands would have been a bloodbath.

It took an event such as the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki to shock the Emperor and his government to finally surrender. The war ended probably a year sooner than expected with no further loss of life on either side.

Liberals know so little of what they declare to hate - namely the history of the United States...

Quite true. Gruesome as it was, it saved several times more lives than it took and brought the war to a prompt ending.

Though the concept of an eye for an eye isn't exactly the most noble motive, people should read the history of what the Imperial Japanese Army did to the people of the lands they invaded, especially China, and especially Nanking, China where an estimated one million Chinese were murdered in some of the most barbarous acts ever committed. There's a book called The Rape of Nanking, and I suggest people read it so they can understand what those times were about, the mindset of the people and the need to bring the killing to an end with all due haste. I make no apologies for using those two bombs, it's just another ugly chapter in an ugly story.
