BEIJING (Reuters) - China's commerce ministry said on Sunday it had launched an anti-dumping investigation into imports of U.S. chicken products and vehicles, as the foreign ministry slammed the United States for protectionism.

Domestic industry had asked the government to counter unfair trade practices used to help import products, the Ministry of Commerce said on its website (ä¸*åŽäººæ°‘å…±å’Œå›½å †åŠ¡éƒ¨).

Of course China wants total 'global free trade'. Heaven forbid we put prices on an equal footing so that quality of the item becomes what's important.

China does what's best for China and no one else. Looks like we may have entered a financial war here and we are sorely lacking in ammo.

We were already in a trade war and losing terribly. They destroyed our industry with their cheap products because of this free trade B.S. which only benefits a relatively small part of the population. We need to fight back now, these tariffs are a start but not enough. Slap them on everything coming over.

Blanks don't count. Yes, we can produce what we need. No, we can't produce what we have become accustomed to.

Our standard of living would fall dramatically.

No, because I am better at math and basic analysis of the underlying US demographics than you.

Because we have lost so much industry to China. That needs to be reversed and limiting imports from China will start that reversal and doemstic industry will begin to again do well.

Our standard of living is lower now than it was in the 1950's. Filling our homes with cheap crap at the expense of our own economy is sheer stupidity. I have always said I would rather have a few high quality items than a pile of junk. Americans were by and large followers of that philosophy until the 60's or thereabouts. My grandparents had much less stuff lying around their house than most people today, but it was all high quality stuff, and it showed in the value of everything when they died. They didn't have any of this particle board crap furniture you get from Walmart, their furniture was all solid hardwood, for instance.

It has gotten now due to the loss of jobs to China that many people can't afford anything but the cheap imports. That must be changed.

When men are most sure and arrogant they are commonly most mistaken, giving views to passion without that proper deliberation which alone can secure them from the grossest absurdities.
