This is what I have heard as well. A penny and ounce. So what happens when soda sales go way down and companies start laying off workers? Huge loss of revenue there eh.

Beverage-industry executives vehemently oppose the idea, which experts say would result in significant price increases. Coca-Cola Co. Chairman and Chief Executive Muhtar Kent called the proposed tax "outrageous" in a speech Monday in Atlanta, saying it reminded him of his days as a Coke executive in the former Soviet Union, when he watched the government dictate consumers' choices by stocking only one type of fruit in a store at a time. "I have never seen it work where a government tells people what to eat and what to drink," he said. "If it worked, the Soviet Union would still be around."
"A penny per ounce would have a seriously negative impact on the industry, as it could potentially raise prices on key packages by 40% to 50%," said John Sicher, editor and publisher of Beverage Digest, an industry publication.

They already are, or are proposing to, tax fruit juice, soda, fast food, snack food like potato chips, etc. bottled water. I'm sure there are other things that I haven't heard about yet.

I mean, I'd prefer if you didn't, but whatever floats your boat.

Look, no matter how much people dislike smokers, they're always going to be there. If you don't want them to smoke outside or indoors, where are they supposed to smoke?

They can sit in their car with the windows rolled up and enjoy their own foul essence, like a pig rolling around in s**t.

Cigarettes cause SO many health problems in so many different ways, and also lead to increased national heatlh costs - costs that are in vain, because smoking-related diseases are preventable - don't smoke, tools!

I'm anti-tax altogether, and I'm not sure I understand taxing bottled water at all. Exactly what is the unfavorable health effect from drinking bottled water? Or is just another example of our Marxist government trying to rob the citizens - well, at least the ones that actually work and do something productive for society - yet again?

They have now decided that the plastic bottles for the bottled water are filling up the landfills too fast and are therefore costing tax money.

Oh, good. Thank you for the clarification. For a moment I was worried taht they might be concerned about the millions of non-biodegradable cigarette butts thoughtlessly chucked by smokers (morons) that are polluting the groundwater and overall ecosystem. Thank God Public Health Threat #1 in NY are non-recycled water bottles! You sure have some insightful, intuitive government!

I don't understand why many cigarette smokers think it's okay and not littering to throw their cigarette butts out the window. This is terrible for the environment and is just as bad as throwing regular trash out your window.

Yes, that is a conundrum. I usually keep a soda can or bottle in my car to use as an ashtray.
