Truckers from across Canada were fuming Wednesday night as word spread that police hit a driver with a $305 fine for smoking in his rig, because it’s considered a workplace.
Trucker busted for smoking in his 'workplace' (http://www.windsorstar.com/health/Trucker+nabbed+smoking/2079343/story.html - broken link)

Even though this happened in Canada, I believe this is ridiculous. Who knows, this could be enforced here in the USA as we already have laws passed by several states and local communities banning smoking in the workplace. I'd like to hear your opinions, as I think the cops have more important issues to deal with ... like real crime.

Makes sense. If the rest of the people cant smoke at work why should truck drivers?
After all the laws have NOTHING to do with health issues. Its all based on unsupported BS. I dont smoke but I support the rest of the worlds right to smoke because nobodies proven its harmful to bystanders. Its nasty & it stinks, but so are and do many non smokers.

According to tax laws, his truck isn't actually considered his "workplace".

100%!! if you cannot smoke in a workplace, then police officers, truck drivers that dont own their own trucks, etc shouldnt be able to either

How ridiculous this smoking issue has gotten.

All because some people think the world revolves around them.

Police officers can't smoke in their cars, firemen can't smoke in their trucks, bus drivers can't smoke in their busses (although amazingly, I actually saw a guy smoking a cigarette while waiting for the kids to be let out of school yesterday...w/the door closed I might add), ambulance drivers can't smoke in their vehicles....so, what's the problem here? It's a company vehicle, is it not? These truckers don't actually own these trucks do they?

Do you have anything from a reputable and credible source such as a medical journal like the Journal of the American Medical Association or the New England Journal of Medicine to support your statement?
