Memphis: It is the end results that count. Hitler built up Germany for a war that caused millions of people trauma and problems. What ever he did was not for "the greatest good".

Sometimes we get the whole package, but usually its just one of the three.

Some of the greatest leaders of all time have caused the deaths of millions of people. Doesn't mean they weren't smart.
Hitler was insane. His mother was his father's niece, and reportedly Hitler had only one testicle. His father was a petty tyrant and abusive. Hitler failed at art and architecture; as a soldier in WW I he was exposed to mustard gas, which didn't help an already fractured psyche. Like so many others who aren't successful, Hitler found that blaming the thriving Jewish intellectuals, artists and scientists, etc. was a workable strategy and drew others who were unsuccessful into his twisted ideology. They bullied their way into power, but Hitler was too grandiose to listen to high-ranking military advisers with more experience. Just because you're somewhat intelligent doesn't mean that you are rational.
Hitler failed at university and became a house painter; whatever "self-education" he got was very little and very narrow in scope.

I'd assert that a few people who frequented the Beer Hall Putsch were political masterminds. Like the loons who abuse our current socioeconomic issues for political gain and crafting of "big" lies, Hitler was just exactly what a destitute and downtroddren country wanted to see at the time.
Just a wild guess, but I'm thinking that Hitler's doctor and associates had a
very good take on Hitler's mental condition. The McNaughton Rule doesn't
apply because Hitler believed that his actions were right and good for Germany...and himself.
People always say this. Was Hitler really brilliant though? or is man just generally vulnerable to misinformation/propaganda?
What made him brilliant? whats the evidence? that he had an army? I'm going to make a leap so bare with me. Sarah Palin has an army (granted extremely small in comparison to Hitler). But is she brilliant? Nope.
At any given moment any schlub can gain to attention of the masses and have the power to make them do destructive things.
If Hitler wouldve waited 2 more years to attack the USSR and had taken care of England first, Germany would still probably be in control of Europe and most of Asia still today.

He threw darn near everything he had at England, and she never buckled. As for this thread and those who would defend Hitler, I quote then Brigadier General Anthony McAuliffe: "Aw, nuts!"
