that is hardly news, but if the death penalty was administered more quickly without so many appeals, it wouldn't be as costly. Not to mention, money isn't the only issue.
You could say, if people on welfare that could work but don't should be completely cut off from even food stamps or people that cant pay should be turned away at the emergancy rooms when they need care would save the country billions of dollars each year. there are a lot of things that could save us money but should not be enforced for that reason alone.
Can someone explain why it is more expensive to use the death penalty than to lock someone up for life? It makes no sense Even with "killing them faster" as an option how is the death penalty more expensive in the first place?

Appeals - and the endless legal cost to fight them.
"Life in Prison" convicts don't put up an endless legal fight, "Death Penalty" inmates do (because of legal organizations who oppose the death penalty on principle and are willing to work on an inmates behalf for free).
If they would simply kill them faster, in the long run it's not going to cost as much to keep them.
That is a good idea. Why even go to court in the first place. IF the cop decides he/she did it...just shoot them right there. Think of the money that we would save. Forget the fact that once they are dead there are no takebacks if they actually did not do it.
There is absolutely no rational reason for the death penalty if life in prison with no possibility of parole is an option. There are those who don't advocate government run insurance because the government can not be trusted, but some of those same people are in favor of the government deciding who receives the death penalty. The logic is just astounding.

It has to be more than just appeals. I'm sure that many life in prison guys work try the appeal process endlessly in the hopes of getting life reduced to something less than life.
So could killing them as soon as they are sentenced...what's the point?
