Marijuana is a given in California. There is no way that it will be restricted. Instead full legalizing of marijuana will occur. California was the first state to legalize medicinal marijuana in 1996. Now California will legalize it. Personally I think there are too many weed dispensaries in Los Angeles. My parents smoke marijuana & so do most of my relatives. It is no big deal.

People outside California do not understand that in California, there is a Domestic Partnership Law - at the state level, gay couples get the same benefits as hetros do and you escape the marriage tax; at the state level, gay couples are treated the same, no employer cares, no one cares - just saying. But let's not turn this thread into that debate...

True. That's part of what makes this so interesting. I can see marijuana use becoming "legal" in California, only to have the party crashed by the feds when the next Republican President takes office - assuming that the next Republican President will prosecute individuals for marijuana use, and the federal laws haven't been abolished by then.

I'm a statist and if the people of California have a referendum and it passes, the feds need to just back off.

Obama cant stop federal prosecutions, he can only pardon those convicted and appoint those lenient for prosecution of the crime. The final decision to prosecute or not to prosecute though are those who's job it is to decide. To be accurate, it was the US Justice Department who said they would ease prosecution for "medical marijuana" use ONLY, this doesnt mean they will allow all marijauana use, or that they wont prosecute some medical uses. I'm glad to see he wants to move it back to state jurisdiction, but if laws arent written and passed, then legally nothing has changed.
