I'm no fan of Reagan, but this poll sucks. Instead of an opportunity to have an enlightened and historical discussion about U.S. policy in Afghanistan we will once again be entertained by the usual suspects going back and forth about, he did, he didn't.

Well, he sold missiles to Islamist radicals in Iran and financed the death squards in Nicaragua. I don't think that funding Bin Laden counts because at that time they were on our side and fighting the commies.

Charlie Rose is a TV personality. Charlie Wilson was a Texas DEMOCRATIC Representative who pushed for helping the Mujahadeen.

Reagan rates a solid "B" in my book. I voted for him twice. He will loom large in history, but not truly worthy of hero worship.

The issue with Bin Laden stems from our walking away from Afghanistan when the USSR left there; G.H.W.Bush was President at that time, not Reagan. See the movie "Charlie Wilson's War" for how that all went down. Here's the short version: USSR leaves Afghanistan, USSR dissolves, Warsaw Pact dissolves, Berlin Wall falls, USA declares Peace Dividend which leads to cuts in U.S. military forces and end of managing things in Afghanistan.
Holy cow, I agree again with what I think of as the "other side". I must need to see a doctor. Sorry, couldn't resist that.

I agree, Hero worship I hope not, Even though my husband worked for him and traveled with him in Ca, I do not think HERO worship is called for, but this poll is really dumb...That is what I see in too many polls, they leave out the obvious questions.

He was a good Pres, maybe great, certainly that is how he is rated by historians and polls right now. Will this last who knows. Few Pres or few people period deserve Hero status..
