Once again, I see how this would lower costs, but how does it help Americans that have no coverage, or who are dropped from their insurance after having a medical condition?

This is absolutely true. Actually it may take even less time for that to happen. Ins rates are climbing at about 8% per year, that means in about 8 yrs, they will have doubled. Small Business is already dropping their contribution to employee health ins., Large Business is cutting back on how much they will contribute... the handwriting is on the wall. At some point, this country will have to face facts. The spin will no longer be able to hide the truth.

In U.S., Majority Favors Suspending Work on Healthcare Bill

Quote:
PRINCETON, NJ -- In the wake of Republican Scott Brown's victory in Tuesday's U.S. Senate election in Massachusetts, the majority of Americans (55%) favor Congress' putting the brakes on its current healthcare reform efforts and considering alternatives that can obtain more Republican support. Four in 10 Americans (39%) would rather have House and Senate Democrats continue to try to pass the bill currently being negotiated in conference committee.
The democrats didn't have the political will to pass obamacare when they had 60 votes in the Senate, I seriously doubt they will grow the cojones necessary to thwart the will of the people now...in an election year....with their leader tanking in the polls on virtually every issue.

Tort reform would be an operational cost reduction of 1.5%. Will the small cost reduction ever be reflected in the consumers bill? Nope. It will be reflected in the caregiver's profits.

The malpractice lawyers/Democratic members of Congress WILL NEVER allow tort reform to happen if it impacts on their ability to earn money.

That's one of the reasons the Doctors and Hospitals will never agree to Universal Health Care. It's simple. With UHC, the Doctors and Hospitals will obviously lose money but the malpractice lawyers will still demand the ability to sue for millions even in the UHC system. You can bank on that.

It's a chicken and egg issue. The malpractice lawyers say say malpractice costs only make up 1% of the total health care costs (because they use strict numbers (the amount of premiums paid by hospitals/doctors for malpractice insurance and insurance payouts to arrive at that 1%).

But to date there's been no multi institutional cross state study done how much defensive medicine really costs.

I'm sure if doctors/hospital were enrolled in these defensive medicine studies (that exempts them from lawsuits with the exception of gross misconduct). But the malpractice lawyers will never agree to have these types of studies on defensive medicine done. They don't want to know the answer.

The closest thing you have to malpractice protection are military doctors/doctors who work for the government agencies. Very few malpractice lawyers take on cases involving government doctors because they don't want to deal with the inability to sue the government.

businesses will love it, no more having to spend profits on people health insurance....but the people wont see any raises..and the people will only see their taxes go up from the government......the end result...garbage government health care that screws the tax payer

the solution.......personal responsibility......pay for the service that you recieved. dont EXPECT someone else(a employeer/or the government/ or an insurance company) to pay for you

It would be extraordinarily difficult to do a study like that. You would have to control for insurance coverage and the why-not-the-insurance-company-will-pay-for-it mentality.

You might want to look at how many doctors and hospitals are supportive of a universal health care system. The idea that they are all opposed is out of date.

And keep in mind that if there were universal health care, the need to sue to secure the funds to provide for medical care for the injured patient would be a non-issue. That alone would lessen the need and desire of people to go through a lawsuit and pay an attorney 30% of any award.

Who can afford to pay the bills when they get cancer or have a traumatic injury? What are people suppose to do then? Die?
