A Target manager named Michael says he was told he was one of 8,000 full-time specialists and team leaders who would be demoted to part-time. Apparently the email went on to say that HR will receive another email within 3-4 months directing stores to reduce current specialist hours to below 32 hours a week. Reason being the company wants to get all the current specs in the company OFF the full time benefits plans to reduce cost. (i.e. health insurance, etc)
Call it what you will but this calls for a public option, exchange, or whatever with a big pool to reduce costs- so that Americans can get affordable and guaranteed coverage. I know too many people who stick with an employer just because of the health coverage and the fear of losing it. Employer based coverage stifles mobility, initiative, and entrepreneurialism.

SIGN......of the times.
NOT surprised at all. Typical.
Another statistical casualty of the "Great Recession."
Consumers are not spending. I'm sure Target could have been justified in laying off those employees, but they chose to keep them on as PT.
Tough choices in the era of obamanomics.
Yeah and in spite of all Obama's talk, things are not looking up here at all. He has no clue. So many businesses i know are laying of, cutting back people's hours, or shutting down, there is no way this economy is seeing itself on the right track, all talk as usual.
Get used to news like that. Unless the Dems get something done on Health Ins., there will be more and more of that kind of news. I say the Dems, because it is obvious the Repubs will take no part in any solution.
Maybe if Target had more insurance companys to choose from one might offer it cheaper.
But lets not ignore that the economy is a factor in this also. If people had more money or security they might be in target spending their money and they could afford to keep them or even hire more

This will become a common treand. Companies simply cannot afford health care costs which double every eight years. The current health care system is a dagger on private companies side.

Repubs offered selling ins. across state lines and other methods to increase competition. All that could be heard from the morons' mouths was "public option" and UHC.
