"California Institute of Technology (Caltech) researchers said the wires are made up of 98 percent plastic, potentially lowering the cost of photovoltaics by using just 1/50th the amount of semiconductor material used today. In tests, the experimental solar cells demonstrated over 90 percent quantum efficiency, compared with 25 percent for the best silicon solar cells."

That is exciting news. I would be running my entire house on solar power right now if the initial cost wasn't so rediculously expensive it would take my lifetime to see a return on my investment.

Thanks for posting this. I've been hoping we would see a big advancement in solar technology. Great news!

I wonder how they work in extreme heat like Phoenix or Las Vegas? I heard the current solar panels on the market are not really effective in really hot climates.

Our first installation will cost around $1000 , with the Panel, Charger,Battery and Inverter, but it is the best and we will add other panels as we need them.

We figure the tv and the computer is the most used, so we are going to use the first one for the TV ,the second for the Computer, and at least we will be doing something about these huge Electric bills.

Excellent!! We looked into it about 2 months ago but it was just to expensive. It would have cost us close to $35,000 to equip our home.

This is excellent hopeful news. As a previous poster stated the initial cost is so high.
I'd love to be off grid..power the well pump and power the house, get a wood stove for winter and say bye-bye to Mr. Electric Company.

I guess it's a matter of adaptation. I moved from within the city limits to outside them. Septic instead of sewer system. What an adjustment in water use we had to make..and we do conserve now. I would imagine living with solar would be similar..don't leave ALL the lights on in the house at night type of change.
