The law in the hands of the power will be twisted to fill the needs when terrorism is no longer foreign and language will be used to define those who disagree with the political and or force government uses.
There is nothing wrong in understanding a law the overrides constitutional rights for all Americans terrorist or not. When private property and phone conversations are considered security of the nation I question who might use this and what basic law of constitution right does the government consider a violation. Is there ever a violation according to the government when it uses "fighting terrorism" as its excuse.
Seems we put alot of trust into a government who continues to lie to us over and over.
I find it breathtaking that brainless Bush supporters couldn't have imagined the Traitor Act being used against its own citizens, especially among certain groups of individuals such as pro-gun, pro-Constitution folks. Shame on you for allowing Bush's stupid ideas to be used by pseudo-intellects like Obama.
No, I felt the same way about it under Bush's regime: Not happy, but there are more important issues for me to be concerned about.
I know that conservatives have a tendency to move in lockstep with one another on political philosophies, so I understand why they may assume that liberals do the same; however, that assumption would be false.
Totally agree. Not thrilled but not all battles can be fought simultaneously. It is not the time to get bogged down in this.
If it was Bush as President would the left be enraged?
Can't speak for everyone on the left. But NO i would not be upset, if during Bush administration, things were as they are now, the Patriot act wouldn't have been a blip on my radar, just as its not now.

What a shocker this must be to certain people. Liberals don't all think alike!
The OP just need the bash of the day thread because their are sooo many blogs and sites online that are still blasting The Patriot Act. The question still remains...where was the outrage from the right when the Bush Crime Family initially enacted this law? You were warned that once something like this is put into force, it will become more and more difficult to do away with. After a time it just becomes a "normal" and accepted part of the bigger picture. No, instead you reacted like chicken hearted lame brains and towed the party line. Now you come back with a retort like this? It is your fault that you fell for the garbage and allowed more freedoms taken away from the American people because Bush told you it was necessary. The terrorists have won this round by your enabling of the last administration to start this ball rolling and the further hacking away at our rights and freedoms. Shame on you to use this as a wedge issue when you willingly allowed it to happen. Where is the petition that has your signature on it that protested this...where???
