Values have shifted significantly. Teachers used to be much older. They went home, knitted, prepared the family meal, held high positions in church and in social, community and charitable organizations, they babysat their grandkids...
Some of these young teachers (pardon my stereotypes) are partying, taking selfies and watching Reality Shows and Scandal.
Yup. The cultural, generational gap between students and teachers has vanished.
If you were the father of two kids 1 boy and 1 girl and each was involved with a teacher, you would be upset if this happened. But your reaction would be very different for each case.
When I was in school all my female teachers were near retirement age They did command a lot more authority in respect in the classroom than the younger ones though.
As a male, I can't imagine any great "harm" from having had sex with a teacher when I was a teen. So I don't think it's something that we need to lock these women up for any length of time. Male teacher with female student seems much worse to me.
How about the male does not want sex. Not all males want to have sex with any woman nor are all teenagers ready and willing to have sex in high school. It may harm the male in that it may ruin his idea of woman and sex and if the teacher gets pregnant it would be a great harm to his future. You can not say one is worse then the other.

I would not be very upset about either one unless they were coerced or misled.

If the young man or woman does not want the sex, "no means no" applies. But those aren't the kind of cases under discussion here.
