Few issues animate me more that civil rights for gays and lesbians. That people would discriminate against others because of whom they sleep with is the height of ignorance and prejudice. The fact that gays and lesbians do not have federal protection from discrimination is a national disgrace.
As many have heard, a lesbian couple in a Mississippi high school recently sought to go to prom together (one of them wearing a tux). Rather than allowing the couple to attend the prom, the school canceled the big dance. In honor of those courageous gals in the Magnolia State who simply wanted to go to prom together, a neat web site has been set up of photos of lesbian couples' prom photos. Add yours if you have 'em!
Check it out and pass it along as a means of ending prejudice against gays and lesbians.
Yes, the height of ignorance.
Mississippi has some problems when it comes to discrimination.
Not to get off topic, but Morgan Freeman did a documentary in the state of a prom discrimination based on race.
If they only post photos of lesbian couples aren't they discriminating against males and hetero couples?
The Mississippi situation is wrong; not because schools should be required to bend to children's sexual preferences but because kids should have the right of freedom of expression.
So cool! I wish there were more pics! Everyone was so beautiful. I loved the girl with the blue dress and blue hair and the awesome blue dress in the pic from 1993. Oh fashion, so funny
That's sad. I'm sure it takes a tremendous amount of courageous for these young kids to come out in the first place. And they want to go to the prom just like everybody else. They probably get their fair share of ridicule as it is, and now to rub salt on an open wound, the whole student body suffers b/c of the school's decision. And who will some of those kids take it out on? The lesbian couple. As if they don't have it hard enough already. Really sad.
What I really like about these pics are that so many of them were taken in a home setting. I love that these girls are being accepted and loved for themselves! My hope is that society will catch up with up with these wonderful parents.
There are still too many parents that believe there is something "wrong" with a child who is not hetero. If that is the only complaint you have about your child---grow the hell up! If I seem a bit harsh, its because my DH won't grow up about this issue.
Since when is going to a prom a "civil right?" Gee, I guess the fatties and ugly people who didn't get asked are having their "rights" violated, too, because they're not attractive? Let's just get rid of proms altogether so no one feels badly, OK?!
Sheesh, around the world, people are REALLY being abused and persecuted because of their gender, religion, sexual orientation, and social status. And we're supposed to be outraged over a prom? Please. It shows how silly and spoiled America has become that we have to find "causes" like this.
If you're so concerned about homosexual rights, why not highlight the important issues and not this drivel? The chick involved just wanted her 15 minutes of fame.
