I know there are moderate and intelligent conservatives out there....where the hell have they gone?
Many have abandoned the part and gone Independent or Libertarian. My father (who was a STAUNCH republican) left the party after Bush was elected for the second time. He's been voting Independent ever since.
Voting independent doesn't help much, when one ends up aligning with a party's ideology and in lockstep almost always. For example, I respect Ron Paul as a politician even with strong disagreements on many issues. I agree with him on military industrial complex and on the issue of Federal Reserve. But while he preaches libertarianism, he still finds ways to ensure governmental influence when it comes to many social issues. It is, as if, he must pander to his constituents to have any chance of running for office.
In my mind, he's the son of a single mother, born during a time whan being "bi-racial" was not nearly as accepted as it is today, with grandparents who raised him, supported him, and encouraged him nonetheless. All this with an apparently somewhat flakey white mother, and an absent, alcoholic father.
Despite these long odds, and they are still VERY long odds, he educated himself all the way to Harvard. Then, he comes out of absolutely nowwhere and gets himself elected President of the United States at the age of 48.
Capable of the job? Probably not, but only time will tell. Riding the coattails of a former administration that was considered a miserable failure by many? Definitely. Elected by a bunch of idealistic, liberal dreamers just because he could deliver a soaring and effective speech? Probably again.
But how much more "successful" do you get than that? Even if he is a one term President, it's an awesome story in it's own right.
I tend to be a Conservative Republican. I'm not sure I'm "right wing". I'm very liberal on many issues.
I don't think Obama is the anti-Christ. I don't think he's a secret Muslim.
I do think he is a socialist and racist. Sorry, but you are known by the company you keep. And he has very disturbing "associates". I think he was elected because people were fed up with Bush, Jr. People wanted "change they could believe it".
I think he is very charismatic. He is a powerful speaker. And he tells people what they want to hear.
I think he'll go down in history as the worst president this country has ever had. And that's difficult considering the mess his predecessor left.
I am a conservative independent. I think Obama is a socialist with very disturbing "advisors." He was elected because we didn't have a lot of good choices in the election. Like I said before, we haven't had a good president since Reagan. He is kind of like Joel Osteen with his speeches. He tells people what they want to hear.
I don't think Obama is a Muslim. If he was, why would he keep it secret?
Main Stream Media elected Obama, the media never vetted him, Obama got the softball questions, and was made to look Presidentual. This is what happens when reporters take on the goal of changing the world instead of reporting the news as it is. My beef is with the media not Obama, what else are we not being told, not being reported. I find out more from the foreign reporters, and news media than we do from our own stateside media. The economy is in the toliet but all you hear in the US is green shoots, well just read English, French, Germany newspapers at least they report, good, bad and ugly.
I would think that more than a quarter of Democrats think Obama may be the Anti-Christ - that's why they voted for him!
