Yes, Maher oversold Brazil. But that's not a mistake on the order of, I don't know, invading Iraq for no good reason.

What an ignorant fool Maher is.

Brazil did not "get off" oil.

Oil consumption (most recent) by country

Brazil is #8 in consumption.

PolitiFact | Bill Maher and George Will spar over oil and Brazil. We play the ref.

The dumb ignoramus Maher is wrong.

In 2008, Brazil ranked No. 7 on the list of the world's countries that consume the most oil, using about 2.5 million barrels per day.

Why they included an ignorant fool like Maher on a grown-up news and commentary program is puzzling.

Maher typifies the permanently adolescent "progressive" thinker, whose sources of information so often turn out to be second-hand urban legends and a quick surf through Daily Kos, Mother Jones, and the Democratic Underground -- not unlike the behavior of chimpanzees who groom each other's fur constantly, searching for edible nits and bits of salt.

As Alexander Pope warned, and as the truly educated among us is aware:

A little learning is a dangerous thing;
Drink deep, or taste not the Pierian spring:
There shallow draughts intoxicate the brain,
And drinking largely sobers us again.
Ooh, another 'winger anti-intellectual thread, haven't seen one of those in awhile (or at least a week)! Although you certainly covered alot of ground there, going from attacking a liberal comedian, to "progressives", to anthropology, and even dragging in old Alexander Pope. Who BTW, also said "And all who told it added something new, And all who heard it made enlargements too."

But even though I like Maher, sometimes I think he does get a little carried away there, and "Religulous" was a good example, where he didn't always need to be quite so snide and disrespectful to get his point across. Hey, even religious fanatics have a right to be treated with some basic decency (at least as long as they're not trying to murder anybody)!

But let's borrow a page here from the 'winger playbook. So even if Maher is an "ignorant fool" (albeit a "Brainiac" one), why do you care about all that.... do you feel threatened by him? In fact, you seem to be more than a bit "obsessed" lately with "intellectuals" and "progressives" in general, what's up with that?

Oversold my ass. He said flat out that Brazil got off oil.

And W T F does this have to do with Iraq or populations? The subject is Bill Maher and his absolutely false assertion that Brazil got off oil.

But only Rush tells lies what's this? Bwahaha!

Giving credence to either of those clowns Maher or Big Al proves the mainstream media shouldn't be taken seriously any longer. Politics and favoritism rule the day.

The Righties despise Maher because he ridicules their beliefs and values.
Like France has Voltaire* and Sartre*, but America has Dr Phil.
*Americans probably have idea who these people are.

Why, their smug sense of assumed superiority and moral rectitude, of course. They (you?) beg to be deflated. I am simply addressing their entreaties.
