Really. . the last time I checked service in the military was voluntary. . and calling them kids is not only misleading but an insult to the men and women in our military.
True - the actual average age is around 22, not 18...so they are 1 step beyond kids. What is misleading is calling them an "all volunteer" force when the majority come from economically depressed areas and lower socioeconomic backgrounds. Volunteering to escape poverty. You can still have pride in them and what they are doing while acknowledging this reality. It's not their fault they are thrown in the middle of a civil war with no way out, without a mission, without adequate protection and without adequate hospital care and mental helath services when they get back. Have to blame the Commander in Chief for that.
Well if your average is correct then 1/2 of the soldiers are over 22 yrs of age. . I think that is a bit more than "1 step beyond kids."
And there is nothing misleading calling them volunteers. Everyone makes choices in life and if they chose to join the military for various reasons, and one of them being as you purport to "escape poverty" then that is what it is their choice.
I was using the mean, not the median to determine average. Most recruits are 19, the average age of marines killed is 21. (Meaning most of the active duty marines are 19 -24 range). The fact we are also now putting the National Guard into active duty combat roles because we need bodies to maintain the "all volunteer" force pushes the average ages of the total force up more than this, because the National Guard members are generally older.
And just when does a fertilized egg become a human being? From a legal standpoint?
The fact is it's legal, the burden of proof is on you to prove that abortion is murdering a human being as you claim, a legal argument, religious arguments do not belong here.
At what exact point do you feel a fetus/infant should have legal protection from being killed?
And when do you expect the neo con holy war in Iraq to value the lives of young Americans?
