We're hoping to have an outdoor birthday party for our daughter. She wants a "field day" kind of thing, so some sort of open space and also access to a grill for a cook out is needed. I was thinking Fort Williams but am wondering about other options?

I'd suggest the Gray Animal Park. It has a nice picnic area, lots of rescued animals to see, a small museum with some interactive things for kids, a fish pond where you can feed trout (bring dimes for the fish food machine) a snack bar with ice cream, and it isn't far from Portland. It's right off route 26 a few miles from Gray Center across 26 from Crystal Lake you'll see the signs. I'm not sure if they have grills I believe they do. We always bring our own table top portable gas grill anyway. Kids absolutely love the place. I checked the web page ,they do have BBQ grills.
