I'm in northern VT, but it's the same cold one would experience in northern Maine. One night I stepped outside and could hear an occasional bang... bang.......... bang. Almost like bullets. Couldn't quite figure it out and asked my neighbor the next day if he had heard them. "Oh yeah. Those were the nails popping out of my roof."
