Aloha all,

I have a friend considering a move to Portland from the islands. Music is very important...how would you describe the music scene in the Portland area? Are there good production facilities? How would you rate the diversity? And local bands that stand out to you?

Thanks for any input!

Cynthia

I am a musician and from what I can gather via internet research and from friends is that the Portland music scene is pretty decent for a city of its size. It seems fairly diverse. I've not done any research into the production facilities yet, nor have I had the time to explore the local bands. I certainly will do so once I relocate. For now I've gotta get the day job and the apartment.

Default music site

Your friend should check out http://www.concertcoop.com. It shows off how much music there is in Portland!

if you/your friend has tattoo's, weird clothes from the 80's and plays indie rock or some variation, you should fit like a glove. If you're thinking laid back Hawaiian music, likely can find a small niche somewhere to fill and play his passion. Overall though, I find Portland to be a polarizing town musically.

Here is a story about our 'scene' from the local daily newspaper.
It was published yesterday Offers a glimpse into the towns music and also briefly mentions a few music production places around town: This Town Rocks
