Some Portland strippers tweet complaints about Portland not having a huge customer base. They make more money touring than staying at home.

There's a difference between being a great strip club town and a town with a lot of strip clubs.

Well if you're so sure of all this already then why did you start a thread to ask people who actually lived in Portland?

I posted the question because I'm wondering if most people in Portland are likely consider strip clubs and open relationships etc. okay in an enduring committed relationship, because it would seem to be the case considering the statistics. Maybe it's not the case; I've never lived there.

@rhacer: definition of 'speech' according to American Heritage dictionary:
a. The faculty or act of speaking.
b. The faculty or act of expressing or describing thoughts, feelings, or perceptions by the articulation of words.
2. Something spoken; an utterance.
3. Vocal communication; conversation.

I'm not sure why you equate Strip Clubs with Open Relationships or casual sex. Looking does not lead to touching. Lap dances do not lead to a night of alcohol fueled wild passionate sex, snorting cocaine off smooth tanned skin and blistering regrets in the morning. It just does not happen! TV has lied to you!

Strippers are there to sell a fantasy, everyone involved in the transaction knows that. The only people who go to strip clubs expecting to pick up a stripper for the night are desperate or extremely confident of themselves. 99.99% of them get shot down.

If you're that worried about, it go to the Club with your husband/boyfriend/whatever, and ask him which girls he likes. Get him a lap dance from that girl, and then go home and take advantage of the situation yourself. I'm willing to bet that your relationship will actually improve if you did this.

You do not need to feel threatened by Strippers, the ones you'd (as a client of the club,) be interested in aren't interested in you anyways because they have boyfriends, husbands, school on the side. The ones that are interested in you, you wouldn't want to be seen in public with due to their many mental issues and/or drug habit. Once you scrape off the makeup and turn up the lights the majority of them wouldn't get a third look walking down the street.

Gosh, I wasn't aware that the American Heritage Dictionary was a legal instrument.

As for statistics ... let me know what kind of a result you want, and I can get you the statistics to support it.

Thank you. Using a pepper spray on exhibitionist perv is a free speech too, you know?
I agree with you: in a location where there's more "causal sex" culture (be it Portland, LA or NYC) it's harder to find a faithful partner who's willing to respect their SO--because the predominant culture tells them not to and tells them it's OK to look for greener grass. I also can imagine that competing with high numbers of easily available for no strings attached stuff, attractive, young people can get frustrating. I had a pleasure of meeting an attractive and intelligent Portland person...who turned out to be a strip club employee. :[[ bleh!

Probably because of many amature-ish, not-so-goodlooking strippers expecting Manhattan money...not happening in Portland.

Speech is not all "free" and can not be, restrictions apply.

There's a huge stretch between going to a strip club and actually having an open relationship or engaging in casual sex or having an affair. I doubt most people at a strip club are deluded enough to imagine they are going to take a stripper home with them...
