haha....I appreciate the suggestion however, I do actually like my husband most days and I love him everyday and I really do want him inside the same home and even room that I am in.

Can you put four on a lot? One for each member of the family?

We would need 5, one for me, my Husband, Walter the dog, Cailleach the cat and Suze Quze the cat except all of those listed behind "me" want to sleep in the same bed as me, then there is myself and I who want to be there as well. Gets a wee bit crowded at times.....

I was looking at a preexisting "tiny home" in Hawthorne district
http://www.redfin.com/OR/Portland/28.../home/26628411
$400 per square foot!

This is my favorite tiny home design (210 s.f.)
Minim Micro Homes | Award winning micro house plans. Reimagining the tiny house.

You can build on for approx $30-40k, but many zoning regulations around the country prevent you from living in it long-term if it is on wheels, or even buying land and building it on a foundation (minimum square footage laws for primary residences)

Even the zoning on Portland's Tiny House Hotel doesn't let anyone stay more than 30 days.

FYI Channel has a good show where they profile tiny house builders across the country: (they even featured the Minim House linked above)

For the homeless and low income? Yes - it seems like a great option (especially parking them in the NE area, outside of the main city core).

For me... nope. Despite being a minimalist, I enjoy my 1,200 sq. ft. luxury loft in SW Portland too much. I'd rather pay my mortgage that is multiple times that of the projected monthly rent of a 'tiny home.' I prefer to live anywhere that isn't near one of those 'developments.'

I am fine with the concept of a tiny home, I would have lived in one during my bachelor years, which I kind of did with my studio cottage I lived in. Now though I would prefer more space for me and my wife, and possibly a kid.

I looked at the "new design" and honestly don't like much if any of it.
Nothing wrong with it if you like it I just don't happen to.
I am more traditional when it comes to any home including the tiny homes.
We have discussed building a tiny home more than once but it would start
out being more of a camping/visiting family/tow behind the vehicle use.
Then it could possibly turn into our long term living quarters.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to build multi-unit micro apartment buildings with shared kitchens/baths? This idea seems like a more expensive, less efficient use of resources and shouldn't be taken seriously. Unfortunately, this being Portland, it doesn't matter that it'll cost more, be an eyesore, and help fewer people. It's quirky and different, and thus it is good.

I'm not quite sure how they hit the $250 price point either, unless they're counting on land being free. Then there's still the problem of utilities.

I would definitely be interested in a tiny home if I were a single gal. Maybe for retirement we'll get a "his" and "hers" tiny house.
