Birkenstocks and baggy clothes. Doesn't really bother to do her hair, etc. Just kinda what you see is what you get.

Default Reply to Portland women

Alright, as a Portland native (woman) reading this thread has been hilarious for me. I will give my take on what has been said thus far and also some of my own opinions for tahoma:

The first thing to address are the "granola women". I have lived here almost my entire life, excluding college up in Seattle, and I personally don't really see that many "granola women". I spend my time on the westside, eastside, downtown, etc. I am all over and I don't see many of these women so I don't think you have much to worry about there, in my opinion.

The next is the women from the "dreaded" southeast. I grew up in Gresham which has a terrbile reputation in Portland as being inhabited by only white trash. Yes, there are some sub par people on the eastside and probably in higher concentration than other places, but that happens anywhere you go. The eastside also has areas like Sellwood, Hawthorne, etc. that are full artistic, intelligent people. And, yes, I know many beautiful women who live in Gresham. GASP!

The sorority/Prada set are in high concentration in this town. I know many girls like this and you will get a mix of very nice, sweet women to snobs. It's all across the board and sort of the luck of the draw. I don't necessarily think all of these women are high maintenance, however. Being guilty of stereotyping myself, I would say these types are in high concentration on the westside.

One group that I think has been totally excluded in this thread is the artsy/hipster/alternative types. I'm not talking goth here but simply women who are interested in music, art, creativity, etc. These women are all over the place and range greatly in styles. I would say that this type of person - both men and women - are very common in Portland. I would say there are many beautiful and intelligent women in this group who would be interesting to interact with and have more than just superficial interests.

As far as your worry about how women will react to your Texan ways, I have always thought of Southern men as being very polite and respectful to women. If I were single and met a man like that, I would snap him up. Although Portland is progressive, I would say there are still many women out there who want to be treated like a lady. I know I do. There may be some girls out there who will be freaked out by an advance, but if you come off friendly and genuinely in interested in them and not their nether regions, you will be fine.

Best of luck!

I was going to say...this does happen anywhere! The eastside also has areas like Sellwood, Hawthorne, etc. that are full artistic, intelligent people. The sorority/Prada set are in high concentration in this town. I know many girls like this and you will get a mix of very nice, sweet women to snobs. Which you would get in any "classification;" I'm sure there are granola snobs, as well. It's all across the board and sort of the luck of the draw. One group that I think has been totally excluded in this thread is the artsy/hipster/alternative types. See, in my ignorance of PDX women, I just thought these people would be classified under the granola type people...I'm not talking goth here but simply women who are interested in music, art, creativity, etc. These women are all over the place and range greatly in styles. I would say that this type of person - both men and women - are very common in Portland. If I were single and met a man like that, I would snap him up. I'm not sure that was a compliment...if by chance it was, thank you Although Portland is progressive, I would say there are still many women out there who want to be treated like a lady. I know I do. There may be some girls out there who will be freaked out by an advance (I bet the number of women "advancing" on a man is very low), but if you come off friendly and genuinely in interested in them and not their nether regions, you will be fine.

Best of luck!
