Not according to the website you are using.

I have lived in Philadelphia and Las Vegas, to believe violent crime is high here is laughable.

I don’t know if Portland has any real converted into apartment warehouses. I know Cleveland does. For Freemrkt’s info they anywhere from $550 to $2000 a month depending upon how large, location and how old meaning if they were really once warehouses that have been converted and not just new buildings in the warehouse district.
yes, they are in the old "industrial" district, they call them "lofts" now or Artist lofts depending on the use. Multi story buildings converted probably 20 years ago or so.
Portland is just growing and gentrified, we have a huge influx of people. 50,000+ coming each year from California alone. Plus everywhere else. so the existing housing stock just isn't nearly enough.

It's so wierd how a LOT of people from big cities like in Cali, will ONLY move to another big city on the W coast, they never seem to think there are smaller cities, better cities, cheaper to live in.... IN BETWEEN . Please all, LOOK AT A MAP, and move someplace far less crowded, you will be so glad you did. And the drive is a lot shorter to get there!

The quote you referenced was a poster making the point that Portland is not the cheapest West Coast city but Sacramento is indeed cheaper. We, from California, not Cali, are blessed for the most part to be from the most desirable cities and living in the Mid-West is a huge cultural shift and being land locked is just too much for many of us. Why should native West Coasters move to the middle America so mid western transplants can take our places. Uhh, no thanks.

But Sacramento is not indeed cheaper. Median house values are higher, not by much but the facts are the facts. You may be able to argue it based on some metrics but not most... Portland is the cheapest city on the west coast.

I agree it’s close but the median home price in Sacramento proper is less than Portland’s which my real estate updated me recently...which is 430k. My hubby’s family insist it’s cheaper and use that argument to persuade us to move there but not only am I not interested in living in that area but I think I have more value in Beaverton. Plus to live in the area I would want to live in he Sac metro would be at least 200-300k more than what we paid for our house in Beaverton. I agree that Sac is more expensive than most think it is when you look at more than home prices.

Having just come from that area (and still go through there fairly often as I have relatives near there)- Sacramento is really different from here (PDX, I don't really know Beaverton) its so hot and dry and dusty but does have a lot of things going for it.... I would do Due Diligence, maybe do an Airbnb for a month this summer if its something you are really considering (that said I do miss a lot about CA, I feel like they take care of their own better than Oregon does, taxes n all)...

I am pretty clear in my post that I have no interest in Sac and yeah, the weather is not for me. But Sac, the city, is featured in Sunset Mag this last month and there are locals not transplants, rejuvenating the city so hopefully it will be the next big Western thing if Tacoma doesn’t beat it to it. If I moved back to my home state I would live near the water but I see Oregon as the place for my golden years for many reasons and our flights from PDX are reasonably priced.

Don't underestimate Vancouver, WA (Clark County) area as the next big Western thing. A lot of positive things are happening there.
