Illinoisboy,
on Friday, the states highest temp of the day was in Brookings along the coast, it was 103! I read it was up to 101 in Tillamook on Saturday. And warm warm warm here in Coos Bay all these last few days. I had to go buy more hot weather clothes (great excuse to shop! lol) Anyhow, its not so unusual to have Oregon weather in the 90s, what IS unusual is that its been this hot in May. So no, its not typical to have it quite this hot during this time. Usually its clear and warm, but not HOT! I know records were broken all over the state these last couple of days.
But hey, come on over!
Tiffany

103 on the coast? Wow! The weather around here has been ridiculous! Yesterday it was 73, and now it's 56. It's supposed to be warmer again by the end of this week, but then the temps are just gonna go back down... like always. I'm gonna be in Vegas the end of June, cannot wait for the warm wheather, I hope!

And since when does refuting (with hard data) incorrect statements attacking? I'm not the one thinking I can analyze your psyche, and claiming you have low-self esteem. One might reasonably see that as an attack, mightn't they?
Am I anti-Portland? If you've read all of my posts you'll have seen that I stated Portland would be my first choice of where to live among larger U.S. cities (Yes, I characterize it as larger - I grew up in smaller places). It is generally clean, close to the outdoors, has great public transit, is bike friendly, has a good music scene, and is a GREAT soccer town. It is also just not my FIRST choice of where to live overall. And "hard data" for one ten day window is hardly a statisically or scientifically valid way to prove a point about Portland's climate. I could more easily go back in the previous year's records to pull out consecutive days of rain. But that is not what this is about. checar and I are merely trying to state that, comparitively speaking, Portland gets far less sun than most cities in the US, including northern cities. This IS an accurate statement and one people moving to Portland might want to know. Is it always gray? No, and we've never said that. Heck, it's gourgeous out right now! But is it statistically, over the years, likely to be grayer more frequently and for longer periods than where they're coming from? It's highly probable!

And the tone that is consistently present in response to "negative" Portland posts is different than what appears on other forums; at least to my eyes and a few others that have commented here on the Portland forum. Portlanders do seem to react more strongly and defensively.

Maybe I can state my case a little more clearly. It is true that Portland gets some sun breaks during the gray months, and some of those days are absolutely beautiful. But if someone is curious about the amount of sunshine in Portland during the fall/winter/spring because they think it might affect them, those sun breaks are irrelevant. What IS relevant is the amount of sunlight they can expect to see ON AVERAGE COMPARED to where they are coming from. That is the comparison checar and I have tried to make. To say "but we do get sun in the winter!" is pointless because it does nothing to change the comparison (using available weather data) that someone considering Portland might need to make.

Why did you leave out the months with the best weather?

I added them.

This is the truth. It's not a joke. I counted the partly cloudy days in the sunny days. Cloudy days include mostly cloudy and partly sunny. If you don't believe me look at the web-site Seattle Climate Data. Gray weather all the time is totally exaggerated and the facts show it.

Anyone interested in Portland's weather can just look up the data.
actually I claimed that, but I was just exagerating. Now that I don' t live there anymore, I don't care who moves there now. Just to let you all know, its 120 degrees in Phoenix 365 days a year....I would not move here (I mean there) if I were you.
