Hi Everyone,

I'm a recent WSU (Pullman) graduate who just got a job at the Nike HQ in Beaverton. I currently live in the Vancouver, WA area.

I am looking for a Condo/duplex close to downtown Portland, yet still close to the Nike campus in Beaverton.

My friend is moving in with me, so we are looking at Condos (with a garage) where rent is =< (less than or equal to) $1500/month

I'm looking for an area where young urban professionals live, not necessarily a "Family" neighborhood. If you catch my meaning.

So here are my questions:

- Should I live north or south of the 26?
- Is the Sylvan/West Haven area a good choice given my situation.
- Do these areas have newer properties or is the area up-kept?

Any recommendations are appreciated!

I would recommend either the Pearl or NW 23rd area. Most of the rest of the West hills are just suburb-style houses, and will be mainly families. Not the place you'll want to be a younger person.

These more downtown locations will be a pretty easy commute to Nike (you could even take the MAX or bike pretty easily.

As you must know it is impossible to be 'close' to the NIKE campus and 'close' to downtown. I take it you want to be somewhere in between. The neighborhoods 'between' are not new but they are "kept up" as you say.

NIKE employees live on both sides of Hgy 26 (exiting 26 and crossing at Murray or Cornell/Bethany).

Franky young urban professionals primarily live in the core area where parking will be a premium, not Sylvan. My primary issue with Sylvan is that a lot of those townhouses are exposed to noise from the Sunset Hgy (26).

I do not know if the Quintet condos have any rentals but that may be a good option for you and your friend. Bus 20 runs past that development with decent service to downtown during commute hours. The Quintet has a fitness center and while you will have access to NIKE's (for $) your friend will not.

Welcome to Portland and be aware that many NIKE employees work long hours. Be sure to manage your commitments. Been there, done that.

Jeepers, creepers. Hop on 26 and you are in town in 10 minutes.

The Nike campus is about 15 minutes from town.

In your fondest dreams! It can be 10 minutes from the Hgy 26 Murray exit.

I drove it daily for several years from the corner of NW Westover & Cornell to campus (not counting finding a parking spot) it took me 25 minutes - and this was almost 20 years ago. Traffic hasn't gotten better.

There are a number of NIKE employees who live in NW/Portland core area. If they can afford that (keep in mind that parking may be in addition to rent) do that for the first year. It is a fun place to live.

Nike campus is about 15 minutes from town.

Note that many Portlanders are afraid of cars.

True young urban professionals (yuppies) take Nike up on the tattooed-swoosh-on-the-ankle offer, and live on the Nike campus.
Ask Uncle Phil, he'll clue you in. Seriously, I live down the road from him.
